Special Thank You to Meadows Farms Nursery:

We’d like to thank Meadows Farms Nursery for their efforts in helping to sow the seeds of our success! Our students are hard at work bringing a fresh load of compost into the courtyard to plant our spring vegetables.

Message from Principal:

Dear Irving MS Families,

As we approach our upcoming Standards of Learning tests (see schedule below), we wanted to share a few thoughts on how we can work together to support our students.

Testing is a chance for our students to show off what they’ve learned this year. While these assessments provide us with helpful data to better support their growth, they are simply a "snapshot" of a single moment in time. They don’t measure a student’s kindness, creativity, or the unique perspective they bring to our classrooms every day.

We want our students to give their best effort, and we also want them to maintain a healthy headspace. Here are a few ways to help your child navigate the week with confidence:

  • Prioritize the "Big Three": A consistent bedtime, a reliable breakfast, and plenty of water are the best fuel for a focused mind.
  • The "Effort over Outcome" Talk: Encourage them to focus on the process rather than the score. Remind them that as long as they try their best, they’ve already succeeded.
  • Keep Routine Consistent: Testing can feel "heavy." Keeping evening routines familiar and low-stress helps provide a sense of stability.

We are so proud of the hard work your children have put in this year. Thank you for being our partners in helping them shine—without the unnecessary stress.

Sincerely,

Kathleen Quigley, Interim Principal

Recurring Irving MS News

Library News:

Most students in the school now have a book that they’re reading for their English class.  8th grade students have selected a title from among several novels for a Dystopian Fiction unit.  7th graders are reading a fiction book of their choice.  We are happy to discuss any of the Dystopian books with 8th grade students.  7th grade students should reach out to us if they’d like to switch books, or if they’d like to discuss their novels.

With SOL testing coming up, please encourage your student to keep a book with them on testing days.  After students finish the test, they will have time to read a book.
