WWES Friday Updates 5/1/2026

May 1, 2026

Dear Waynewood Owls,

I want to start by sending a huge "shout out" to our wonderful students in grades 3 through 6. We officially kicked off our Standards of Learning (SOL)  testing this week with the Reading assessment, and I was so impressed by the focus, stamina, and "can-do" spirit our Owls displayed. They truly rocked the test! As we transition into Math testing next week, we have full confidence that they will continue to try their best and show off everything they have learned this year.

While our older students were busy with the assessments, our first graders hit the road for a field trip to the American History Museum.  Thank you to the parents who chaperoned. We appreciate your time and support!  Our 6th graders also had a chance to visit Sandburg, where they learned more about middle school life.  It is hard to believe that they will be middle schoolers in about six more weeks!

Looking ahead to next week, it is time to lace up those sneakers for the "Running is Elementary" track meets. Our K-2 athletes will take to the field on Wednesday, followed by our 3-6 runners on Friday. Whether they are sprinting for the finish line or cheering on a teammate, we know our athletes will shine with sportsmanship and Waynewood pride. Go Owls!

Another great way to stay active is coming up on May 6, which is "Walk, Bike, or Roll to School Day." If you are able, we encourage everyone to participate and enjoy a fresh-air commute to start the day.

On a more serious note regarding our school grounds, you may be aware that we have some furry neighbors—a den of baby foxes has made a home under one of our sheds. While they are certainly cute to look at from a distance, it is vital that we respect their space. We have received several reports of individuals throwing sticks and rocks at the foxes during non-school hours. If your child enters or exits through Door 8, please have a conversation with them about why this behavior is unacceptable. We want to keep both our students and our local wildlife safe, and that starts with being kind and staying away from their den.

Thank you for your continued partnership in making Waynewood such a warm and respectful community. I hope you all have a wonderful, relaxing weekend!

Sincerely,

Katie Cachine, Principal

Alyssa Bonner, Assistant Principal

Class Placement Feedback Form

Many parents/guardians are interested in having a role in their child’s class placement. You have the best overall knowledge of your children and their unique traits. The class placement process is approached very carefully and thoroughly.  In order to provide the best environment for students, we seek input from both staff and parents/guardians.  Please share your thoughts on the needs of your child by answering the questions in this form. When completing the form, I ask that you:

  • Share the qualities of a teacher and classroom environment that would best meet your child’s needs.
  • Let us know if you feel that your child should be separated from another student, we will take that request into consideration.  Please remember that best friends do not necessarily belong in the same instructional group. • PLEASE DO NOT REQUEST A TEACHER BY NAME. We cannot honor requests for specific teachers.
  •     Please do not include negative information about past teachers, as the teachers may read these forms when assisting with class assignments.   If you are interested in sharing this information, please complete the form below and submit it by May 15, 2026.

There are many factors that are considered when classes are formed.  We consider the parent/guardian  information when making class placement decisions, but cannot guarantee that all parent/guardian requests can be honored.

Use this Google Form to submit your feedback.
