Jefferson Journal May 1, 2026

Message from the Director of Communications

Dear TJHSST Families,

Welcome to May! It's the last full month of the school year so I think everyone is getting a little excited with anticipation for the upcoming summer break.

But before that, we still have a lot to accomplish with AP tests the next two weeks, followed by TJ traditions such as tjSTAR and J-Day later this month.

This week's newsletter has important AP testing information and reminders, along with a message from our Safety and Security team.

As always, please reach out if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Mike Roth

TJHSST Director of Communications

IMPORTANT UPDATES

Information on AP Exams in Students' Emails

All students scheduled to take an AP Exam over the next two weeks received an email on Wednesday with all the important AP Exam information and their exam schedule.

Please ask your child to read ALL of the information as it is very important. If they have not received it, have them reach out to Ms. Broadhead ASAP.

It is important that they pay attention to their specific exam locations and start times. Due to different schedules, their exam start time may be different from someone else’s.

Key things to remember on exam day:

🎯Students MUST have their FCPS device with them on exam day.

🎯Students MUST know their College Board login information. Do not count on it being saved on their device. Students can write their login information on a business-card-sized piece of paper and bring it with them.

Tip: Put all test materials into a gallon-size baggie so that your child always has it all.

🎯AP ID Label Sheet (hybrid and world language exams only)

🎯College Board login information

🎯Charge cord

🎯Pens/Pencils

🎯Calculator (and extra batteries if applicable)

Students Need to Update Bluebook on FCPS Device Before Testing

For students taking AP Exams:

A critical Bluebook™ update was released on April 30, 2026. Unless blocked, Bluebook will auto-update the next time it’s opened. Students use Bluebook to take PSAT-related assessments, the SAT®, and digital AP® Exams. To avoid overwhelming the school network and causing delays on exam day, ask your student to open Bluebook themselves before test day on their school issued device (they don’t need to sign in).

AP Exam Cancellations and Requests for Late Testing

Does your student want to cancel an AP exam or need to request Late Testing for an AP exam? Parents/Guardians, fill out the Google forms linked below.

🎯Request to Cancel an AP Exam

🎯Request for Late Testing

Questions? Reach out to Ms. Broadhead.

Door 1 to Be Closed During Weapon Screening Starting This Monday May 4

Starting May 4th, door 1 will be closed for weapons screening in the morning.  Please enter through either door 8 or 12.

Reminders from Safety and Security

Please remember that ALL kiss and ride students should only enter campus from Braddock Road. Minor Ln heading to Little River Turnpike is a one-way street.

Students should not be dropped off or picked up on Braddock Road or surrounding neighborhoods. This is a safety hazard. They should only be dropped off and picked up in the back parking lot, between doors 7 and 9.

Students need to be in their classrooms by 8:40AM, so be sure to budget enough time to account for the traffic that normally comes around arrival time.

Thank a Teacher

Thank a Teacher started in 2016 with one goal: to thank as many Virginia public school teachers as possible during National Teacher Appreciation Week in May.

With thank-you notes designed by students and distributed by the Virginia Lottery, Virginia's residents can thank their favorite public school teachers and help them win a cash prize and supplies for their schools. Every digital thank-you note a teacher receives includes a unique code that can be used to enter a drawing to win $2,500 from the Virginia Lottery and its partners and $2,500 in supplies for their school.

The four lucky teachers who win will be surprised at their school. Send your digital Thank a Teacher note before May 8!

Donate to the Jefferson Junction to Support TJ Students

As our school community grows and changes, more of our students and families are facing practical needs. That’s why we’re excited to have the Jefferson Junction, our brand-new non-perishable food and hygiene resource for students.

But we can't do it without your help.

We're asking our amazing TJ parents and families to partner with us in stocking the pantry shelves. Whether it's some healthy snacks or hygiene essentials, every donation makes a difference. We will collect donations on a rolling basis to keep the pantry stocked. All donations will be used to support TJ students.

🛒 Want to help? Here’s how:

  • Visit our Amazon Wish List and have items sent directly to the school: https://a.co/giHCfQN Attention: Danielle Armstrong, Social Worker
  • Drop off non-perishable donations at the school: Attention: Danielle Armstrong, Social Worker

From all of us at TJ, thank you for stepping up and helping Jefferson Junction become a place where every student knows they’re seen, valued, and supported.
