🌳Sangster Earns Green Flag Distinction!
Sangster’s Eco-Club, spearheaded by 6th grade teacher Ms. MacIver, has officially earned the nationally recognized Green Flag distinction through the Eco-Schools U.S. program and the National Wildlife Federation—awarded for excellence in environmental action and sustainability leadership.
This achievement reflects months of hard work, creativity, and commitment by our students and staff, all guided by a powerful mission:
Supporting environmental leadership and climate action in schools.
To earn Green Flag status—the highest recognition awarded by Eco-Schools—schools must accumulate at least 100 points through impactful environmental initiatives.
We’re proud to share that Sangster’s Eco-Club earned an impressive 104 points!
Here are just a few of the inspiring projects that made this possible:
- 🎨 Native Species Coloring Books: Students designed educational coloring books featuring endangered species native to Virginia.
- 🐦 Bird-Friendly School Certification: Efforts to create safe and welcoming habitats for local bird populations.
- 🌼 Pollinator Garden Planting: Establishing native plants to support bees, butterflies, and other pollinators.
- 🌱 Winter Sowing Project: Growing plants sustainably during colder months to prepare for spring planting.
This milestone is more than an award—it’s a reflection of Sangster’s commitment to environmental stewardship and student leadership.
Our Eco-Club members have shown that even small actions can lead to big change when driven by passion and teamwork.
