Message from Principal Vereb

🐝 Principal Vereb's Weekly Reflections from the Hive

Good evening, Herndon Elementary Families,

It has been another exciting and full week of learning, connection, and forward planning at Herndon Elementary School. I am grateful for the many ways our students, staff, and community continue to come together in support of our Bees.

This week, we made important progress as we look ahead to the next school year while continuing to stay grounded in strong daily instruction:

  • We are excited to welcome Christopher Fitzgerald as our instructional coach (IC) for next year. He brings strong elementary experience and a deep understanding of data-based systems that will support high-quality instruction across classrooms.
  • I met with our Senior Manager for Mathematics to begin planning for an Algebra 1 opportunity for a cohort of rising sixth graders, expanding access to advanced coursework, all connected to our 2030 Strategic Plan.
  • We are grateful to the Herndon Women’s Club for exploring a generous donation to support our new library space, along with a future Little Free Library ("Take a Book. Share a Book.") to be installed near our front entrance.
  • We continued classroom walkthroughs and staff one-on-one meetings, staying focused on the systems and instructional priorities that will guide our work next year.

At the same time, this week was filled with meaningful experiences for our students and families:

  • We were proud to host our Purple Star Breakfast, honoring and celebrating our military-connected students and families.
  • I enjoyed spending time with students during our third and fourth grade lunch bunches, hearing directly about their experiences and ideas as their principal seeking to deliver the best possible school experience. I continue to be amazed by our incredible students.
  • Our Community Yard Sale brought families together for a fun and well-attended event, strengthening our school community.
  • On Friday, I joined colleagues across the region at Providence Elementary to plan for the expansion of AVID strategies and programming, which will continue to support student engagement and college and career readiness.

We are also looking forward to welcoming Superintendent Dr. Reid to Herndon Elementary on May 18 for a site visit. This will be a wonderful opportunity to showcase the strong work happening across our school.

As we continue through this important time of the year, thank you for your ongoing partnership and support. Your engagement makes a meaningful difference for our students each day.

Looking ahead, we are also preparing to celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week which begins next Monday and concludes on Friday. We look forward to recognizing and honoring our incredible teachers and the care, expertise, and commitment they bring to our Bees every single day.

With appreciation,

Dr. Vereb
Herndon Elementary School Principal

Dear HES community,

Next week, May 4-8, is Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week!  This is such a special week and a time to let your child's teachers and school staff know how much you appreciate them.

We all have our ways, whether it be sending a quick note or drawings in your child's backpack, an email from a family or community member, treats, etc. The staff directory is on our Herndon ES website.
