Congratulations to our Summit K–12 Papa John’s Challenge winners! We are incredibly proud of our students for their dedication, perseverance, and commitment to reaching their goals.
Dear Bailey's Upper Families,
This week, we are in full testing mode—it’s all about reading, reading, reading! We are so very proud of all the hard work our students have put in this year, and we are excited for them to have the opportunity to show what they know.
While this week is focused on testing, we know our students are so much more than a test score. They are thinkers, problem-solvers, creators, and leaders, and they demonstrate that every single day. Thank you for all the encouragement and support you have given them this year—it truly makes a difference. We can’t wait for them to show the world just how capable and brilliant they are!
Please take a moment to watch Part 1 of our SOL video that students will see next week—we think you’ll enjoy it just as much as they will.

We are also very excited for next week’s Teacher Appreciation Week! Be sure to follow along on our social media to see all the ways we will be celebrating and spoiling our amazing teachers.
With gratitude,
Bailey’s Upper Admin Team

📂 This week’s Thursday Folder includes:
- FCPS Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) Form - 3rd Grade Non-Immersion Classes Only (Home Language)
- Thank You Cards for Students
- PTA DC United Night Information Flyer (English & Spanish)
- PTA Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week (English & Spanish)
Please take a few minutes to review these items with your student so you stay up-to-date with all the exciting things happening in our school community!
Beginning next week, the Fairfax County Police Department will begin enforcing traffic regulations in the area surrounding school arrival and dismissal routes. Vehicles parked or stopped along the service road while waiting to enter the school may be subject to ticketing.
Please remember that no person shall stop a vehicle in a manner that impedes or creates a hazard for the use of the roadway by others, except in cases of emergency, accident, or mechanical breakdown. Violations may result in fines or other penalties.
We sincerely thank our families for their continued support and cooperation as we have adjusted our Kiss & Ride procedures. Your flexibility and understanding have been greatly appreciated as we work to improve traffic flow and ensure a safer, more efficient arrival and dismissal process for everyone. Your partnership plays an essential role in keeping our students, staff, and families safe each day.

Our students enjoyed music class as they explored different instruments and worked together to create music, each sound contributing to the group.
Thank you so much to those who have already contributed toward Teacher & Appreciation Week which is on May 4th-8th—we truly appreciate your support! 💛
A few people asked about an easier way to help, so we’ve created an Amazon Wish List to make donating simple and convenient.
There is absolutely no expectation to contribute, but if you are able, it would mean so much and help us create a special and memorable week for our entire staff.
Thank you again for your kindness and support!

Staff Star of the Week Program Donations
Each week we highlight anywhere from 1-4 staff members for our Staff Star of the Week Program. With this recognition, our staff is featured in our weekly staff newsletter and receives either a $5 Starbucks gift card, $5 Target gift card, or $5 Amazon gift card.
If you are interested in donating $5 Starbucks gift cards, $5 Target gift cards, or $5 Amazon gift cards to our school to help us continue our Staff Star of the Week Program, please drop them off in the main office.
Standards of Learning Tests (SOLs)
In preparation for the SOLs in May, we sent home a SOL Notification of Testing letter to all families in our Thursday, March 6th folders. We resent this letter this week on Thursday, April 16th. A parent retake permission form is included on the letter. If you would like your child to have the opportunity to retake an SOL, please plan to complete the bottom half of the letter and ask your child to return the form to their teacher. Retakes will be administered for those that qualify 2-4 days after the initial test date listed below.

FCPS family information phone lines are available in nine different languages. An FCPS employee will respond to your call in your preferred language within 24 hours, Monday through Friday.
Call the phone line with questions about your child’s education or FCPS, and someone will help connect you to resources or arrange for you to speak to the appropriate school employee. Learn more about family information phone lines.

In FCPS, we all belong. From the first day of school, to the last day of school, every child matters. If your student is having a hard time finishing the year strong and attending school, please contact a trusted adult at our school — a teacher, counselor, or administrator. Visit FCPS’ website for more attendance resources.

Reach out to the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board (CSB) for specialized youth mental health services designed to help your child succeed. The CSB has individual and family counseling, psychiatric diagnostic evaluations, medication management, parenting groups, peer support, crisis response, recovery supports that include medication-assisted treatment (MAT), intensive services, and other services.
Contact CSB Entry and Referral to get started by calling 703-383-8500 or emailing csb@fairfaxcounty.gov.
Additional Mental Health Resources 🌱
FCPS has resources available to support your child’s mental health. During after-school hours, parents and students who need additional support can use the 988 Lifeline to get free, confidential guidance from trained crisis counselors on how to best help someone experiencing a mental health challenge or crisis. You can call or text the number.
Recent reports have shared an 11% drop in suicides among young people since the rollout of 988. Please note, the hotline is not only for those experiencing suicidal ideation (or thoughts), it is also available for any mental health or substance abuse-related crisis and those with a loved one experiencing those crises or suicidal thoughts.
And as always, if your concern is an emergency, you should call 911.
