Dear Terraset Families,
Next week, May 4th - May 8th, we will be celebrating Staff Appreciation Week. There are many ways our Tiger Family can show their appreciation for our incredibly talented teachers and staff: write a thank you note, create a personalized card, or draw a picture! See the announcement below for more specifics. Our staff works very hard to ensure our Tigers have the absolute best experience possible every single day, let’s show them how much we appreciate them!!
Terraset ES truly is such an outstanding school because of you, our students, our teachers, staff, and our incredible community. THANK YOU!
Warmly,
Katie Aldridge, Principal
Dave Ickowski, Assistant Principal
🏆Science Olympiad
Congratulations to our 36 students in Grades 3 and 4 that participated in the Science Olympiad Competition at Lake Braddock Secondary School this past weekend! These students represent the incredible curiosity and problem-solving attributes that make Terraset so special.

💌Staff Appreciation Week (May 4-8)
Next week, May 4-8, we will be celebrating Staff Appreciation Week. The PTO is preparing to celebrate our incredible teachers and staff with a tropical-themed week, and there are lot of ways families can help, such as donating funds or wish list items or by signing up to come in and help.
Here are some spirited ways every student can join in and show their appreciation:
Monday, May 4: Kick off the week by wearing a Hawaiian shirt or tropical colors!
Tuesday, May 5: Give staff members a high five when you greet them for the day :)
Wednesday, May 6: It is a wacky Wednesday, and let’s show it with wild socks or mismatched clothes.
Thursday, May 7: For Terraset Thursday, wear school spirit wear or orange/black.
Friday, May 8: Send in a little note or picture to brighten a staff member's day.
☕Parent Coffee- 5/8
Our In-person Parent/Principal Coffee will take place on Friday, May 8th at 9:45 AM. We hope you’ll join us for this opportunity to connect and ask questions!
🚌We stuffed the bus!
Thanks to our amazing South Lakes community, we collected 2,860+ pounds of food during our Stuff the Bus event on Friday! Thank you all for your contributions to the South Lakes Food Pantry! Take a look at all the action from Friday, here!

📅Updates to 2026-27 School Year Calendar
The School Board voted to direct the superintendent to designate Veterans Day as a standard instructional day for the 2026-27 school year. Because this day was added, the 2026-27 school year will now end for students on Wednesday, June 16, 2027. Find additional information on BoardDocs. View the updated complete school year calendar on FCPS’ website.
The last day of school for the current school year — Wednesday, June 17, 2026 — has not changed.
🐯Kindergarten Orientation
We enjoyed meeting so many future tigers at our Kindergarten Orientation on April 10th! If you were not able to make it, please take a look at our presentation.
If you or a neighbor needs to register a child for Kindergarten, please reach out to Shannon Johnson ( smjohnson2@fcps.edu ) or begin registration online.
📝Support Your Children During Important Spring Assessments
Students will be participating in spring assessments based on their grade level and courses. This includes summative assessments like Standards of Learning (SOL) tests, which measure what a student knows, and progress assessments like Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) tests, which measure where they are in their learning.
FCPS encourages all families to support their students in taking these tests. Virginia requires schools to test at least 95% of students on SOLs, so when families choose not to participate in testing, it can impact a school’s accreditation, accountability ratings, and ability to measure student progress accurately.
Parents and caregivers can help their children perform their best on these tests by reminding them to get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and the cell phone policy still applies during testing season.
It is important that students attend school on scheduled testing dates. If you are aware of a conflict that may cause your student to miss a test, please notify your student’s school as soon as possible.
Learn more about how to support your child and why test participation matters.
