FCPS School Year Calendar
Thank you to Jordana Ettedgui for representing Edison HS at the presentations of learning today. She did a great job talking with FCPS leadership about her experiences here at Edison.
Edison Community,
It’s been a full week at Edison, with opportunities to connect as a community, celebrate our seniors, and continue important work around student access and support.
On Monday evening, it was great to see our entire pyramid come together to focus on advanced academics from kindergarten through 12th grade. As our elementary families begin exploring options, having everyone in one place to answer questions and talk through what those pathways look like in middle and high school made a real difference. A big thank you to our Advanced Academics team (AART) and our MYP/IB coordinators for putting together such a thoughtful and well-run event.
We also had the opportunity to celebrate two senior nights this week for girls' soccer and girls' tennis. As always, these moments are special. Seeing our seniors recognized alongside their families is a powerful reminder of the time, effort, and commitment they have given to their teams over the years. They’ve left their mark on these programs and will absolutely be missed.
Last night, I attended the GreenSprings scholarship award ceremony for the first time, and it was impressive. The sense of community in that room and the connection between residents and our students were palpable. Dr. Reid spoke about how those relationships, not a direct quote but a summary, allow communities to do great things. If we can find ways to create more of these communities, there is nothing we could not accomplish, and it really resonated. We are incredibly proud of our students who received scholarships, including Mary Asihel, Ella Duong, Mariamawit Eshetu, Andrea Espinoza-Rodriguez, Estelyn Lopez-Luque, Elellan Michael, Mika Taddese, and Abimaiel Yohannes, and we look forward to celebrating them again at our Senior Awards Night. I also encourage any students looking for part-time work to consider GreenSprings. It’s more than a job. It’s a place to build relationships, find mentors, and have people genuinely invested in your success.
Today, we had the opportunity to share our work around inclusion during a Presentation of Learning with other schools and FCPS senior leadership. We focused on our intentional approach to Tier 1 instruction and how we continue working to remove barriers so all students can access the curriculum. A special shout-out to Jordana Ettedgui, who represented Edison by sharing her perspective as a student. She spoke with honesty and clarity about her experience, and we are very proud of her advocacy.
And tonight, our seniors head to prom! It’s always a highlight of the year, and we’re looking forward to seeing them celebrate together.
Have a great weekend, and I hope to see many of you out at our events.

Varsity Girls Lacrosse wins a close game 10-9! Go Eagles!
In FCPS, we all belong. From the first day of school, to the last day of school, every child matters. If your student is having a hard time finishing the year strong and attending school, please contact a trusted adult at our school — a teacher, counselor, or administrator. Visit FCPS’ website for more attendance resources.
Virtual therapy sessions are available to FCPS high school students at no cost to provide a safe space to address concerns such as:
- Mood/behavior changes, motivation, grief/loss.
- Anxiety, worry, fears.
- Social skills, bullying, peer and family relationships.
- Academic stress.
Students can be referred by a guardian or designated school staff member. You may refer your child by calling 571-749-2940 or by contacting an FCPS school counselor, social worker, psychologist, or director of Student Services. Visit the FCPS Teletherapy webpage for more information.
Your Child's Mental Wellness Matters: Access Comprehensive Services
Reach out to the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board (CSB) for specialized youth mental health services designed to help your child succeed. The CSB has individual and family counseling, psychiatric diagnostic evaluations, medication management, parenting groups, peer support, crisis response, recovery supports that include medication-assisted treatment (MAT), intensive services, and other services.
Contact CSB Entry and Referral to get started by calling 703-383-8500 or emailing csb@fairfaxcounty.gov.
Additional Mental Health Resources
FCPS has resources available to support your child’s mental health. During after-school hours, parents and students who need additional support can use the 988 Lifeline to get free, confidential guidance from trained crisis counselors on how to best help someone experiencing a mental health challenge or crisis. You can call or text the number.
Recent reports have shared an 11% drop in suicides among young people since the rollout of 988. Please note, the hotline is not only for those experiencing suicidal ideation (or thoughts), it is also available for any mental health or substance abuse-related crisis and those with a loved one experiencing those crises or suicidal thoughts.
And as always, if your concern is an emergency, you should call 911.
Last week, we celebrated our Softball seniors and all they have contributed to our program. Thank you for the memories, the hard work, and the pride you brought to every inning!

Edison Athletics Booster Club will offer six scholarships to graduating Edison High School seniors who have participated in Varsity Edison Athletics as a player. Applicants will be judged on athletic accomplishments, community service, coach’s recommendation, and written essay. Financial need is not a determining factor. Each scholarship award will be in the amount of $500. Scholarships (checks) will be made payable and sent directly to the recipient’s college or technical/vocational school. CLICK HERE for the application and information on how to submit your coach's recommendation. Deadline: Thursday, May 21.
Last night, we celebrated our Girls Tennis seniors. We are so proud of our seniors and excited for all that lies ahead!
Students will be participating in spring assessments based on their grade level and courses. This includes summative assessments like Standards of Learning (SOL) tests, which measure what a student knows, and progress assessments like Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) tests, which measure where they are in their learning.
FCPS encourages all families to support their students in taking these tests. Virginia requires schools to test at least 95% of students on SOLs, so when families choose not to participate in testing, it can impact a school’s accreditation, accountability ratings, and ability to measure student progress accurately.
Parents and caregivers can help their children perform their best on these tests by reminding them to get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and the cell phone policy still applies during testing season.
It is important that students attend school on scheduled testing dates. If you are aware of a conflict that may cause your student to miss a test, please notify your student’s school as soon as possible.

As you may be aware, the US Department of Justice (DOJ) has extended the WCAG 2.1 AA compliance deadline for large public entities to April 26, 2027. DOJ is considering separate requirements for K-12 schools due to implementation challenges, but has not yet issued formal guidance on this. We will share updates as they become available.
Notwithstanding extension of the federal government's compliance deadline, effective as of April 24, 2026, Virginia law requires FCPS to comply with the WACAG 2.1 Level AA digital accessibility standard and to require all IT vendors to certify compliance of their products and services.
FCPS will continue our coordinated efforts toward compliance and document our progress until further notice. We will provide updates on Virginia guidance if and when they are released.
