 Dear Stone Families,
We experienced a week full of celebrations and honors.
We celebrated our amazing Administrative Professionals in the building on Wednesday. Stone operates day to day due to hard work of Ms. Hicks, Ms. Angilletta, Ms. Greygor, Ms. Anderson, Ms. Diaz, Ms. Copeland & Ms. Peckham. Our staff honored these outstanding professionals with flowers and treats.
This past week was also Afterschool Professionals Appreciation Week. We all know that Mr. Anderson runs one of the best most energetic after school programs in Fairfax County. We are grateful to have him here at Stone leading our Panthers.
As we closed out last week, we celebrated the 35th Anniversary of Stone Middle School. All previous principals of Stone were here to share their journey in leading Stone throughout the years. The common theme was that Stone Middle School is a special place with special people. There is no other school like it and we will continue that legacy for years to come.
We are excited to share some outstanding news about Mrs. Christine Maxted, Stone’s Performing Arts teacher! Christine was awarded the Wolf Trap Grant for Performing Arts Teachers this week for the Youth and Senior Collaborative Storytelling Project at Westfield HS! Please join us in congratulating Ms.Maxted!
We’d like to also Mrs. Allison Popsuy, Reading Specialist, on her National Board Recertification! Great job as we know this is no easy feat. Read more about National Board Recertification here: https://www.fcps.edu/news/excellence-starts-educators-10-teachers-earn-or-renew-prestigious-national-board-certification
This week coming up we will continue to work towards preparing and learning for SOL Testing which is right around the corner starting Monday, May 4th. We are also actively preparing our Teacher Appreciation Week activities Please consider donating a $10 gift card, breakfast items and more to PTSA for distribution to teachers.
Can you believe it there is only 35 more days of school for the year!
Let's have a great week Panthers,
Sonya Williams
Principal

Support Your Children During Important Spring Assessments
Students will be participating in spring assessments based on their grade level and courses. This includes summative assessments like Standards of Learning (SOL) tests, which measure what a student knows, and progress assessments like Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) tests, which measure where they are in their learning.
FCPS encourages all families to support their students in taking these tests. Virginia requires schools to test at least 95% of students on SOLs, so when families choose not to participate in testing, it can impact a school’s accreditation, accountability ratings, and ability to measure student progress accurately.
Parents and caregivers can help their children perform their best on these tests by reminding them to get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and the cell phone policy still applies during testing season.
It is important that students attend school on scheduled testing dates. If you are aware of a conflict that may cause your student to miss a test, please notify your student’s school as soon as possible.

Monday May 4th: READING SOL
Thursday May 7th: MATH SOL
Tuesday May 12th: SCIENCE SOL

Stone Q3 All A Honor Roll Ceremony
Congratulations to our students who earned all As for Quarter 3! We held our Honor Roll program on Thursday for those students in the Theatre. During our brief program, we welcomed two former Stone MS students that are now high school leadership students as guest speakers. Students then celebrated with a donut reception in our cafeteria, courtesy of our fabulous PTSA! Here is the recording of the program for any community members who would like to view. Students who earned all As as well as students who earned As and Bs for Q3 should have received a certificate and bracelet as recognition. We are proud of all of our students for working hard each day at Stone!

Required Immunizations for Rising 7th and Rising 12th Graders
The following immunizations are required for students entering 7th and 12th grade each school year.
All students entering 7th grade are required to receive one dose of each of the following immunizations prior to the beginning of school: Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis booster (Tdap), Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY), and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine.
- To meet the Tdap requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age 7 or older.
- To meet the MenACWY requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age 10 or older.
- To meet the HPV requirement, the vaccination should be given between the ages of 11 to 12 or as early as 9 years old.
- As a parent/guardian, you may decide that your child will not receive the HPV vaccination. The school does not require documentation if a parent/guardian elects for their student not to receive the HPV vaccination.
All students entering 12th grade are to receive two doses of the Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY) prior to the beginning of school. To meet the MenACWY 12th grade requirement, one dose must be administered at age 16 or older.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to plan ahead by scheduling an appointment with your child’s health care provider now to avoid the rush this summer. Please consider getting your child’s immunizations early so that they can attend school in the fall. Summer is a busy time for families and healthcare providers. As long as your child meets the age requirements listed above, they can be immunized at any time.
Immunization Events for FCPS StudentsFCPS, in partnership with Inspire Health Alliance, will provide school-required immunizations and optional flu shots for all FCPS students at no out-of-pocket cost. Multiple events will take place at designated FCPS locations.
Dates will be made available throughout the school year. Parents or guardians may view upcoming events and schedule an appointment for their student. Participation is voluntary. Additional immunization resources are also available.
