Three students sit at a table for art

Our artists enjoyed the beautiful weather this week and took advantage of our outdoor classroom space!

Dear Woodburn Families,

As we enter the final stretch of the school year, we are preparing for important end-of-year assessments, including SOLs. We ask for your partnership in ensuring students are set up for success each day by getting a good night’s rest, eating a healthy breakfast, and arriving at school on time. Consistent attendance is especially important during this time, as each day of instruction and testing matters.

We are also looking forward to many exciting end-of-year events, including final field trips and celebrations across grade levels. We appreciate your support in helping students stay focused and ready to fully participate in both their learning and these memorable experiences.

As we begin planning for next school year, we invite families to complete a short form to share any input regarding their child’s placement. While we cannot guarantee specific requests, your insights are helpful as we work to create balanced and supportive classroom communities. Please use the following link to submit your input: https://forms.gle/2bdZtAs1DNWMN4JR8

I also want to share that Ms. Dauberman, our Assistant Principal, will be going on leave soon. We are grateful for her continued dedication to our school community and wish her well during this time. We are excited to welcome Ms. Mariela DeKraker, who will be serving as our Acting Assistant Principal while Ms. Dauberman is away.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support as we work together to ensure a strong finish to the school year.

🪴 Together We Grow,

Ms. Iyer

Spring SOL Testing

Students will be participating in spring assessments based on their grade level and courses. This includes summative assessments like Standards of Learning (SOL) tests, which measure what a student knows, and progress assessments like Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) tests, which measure where they are in their learning.

Parents and caregivers can help their children perform their best on these tests by reminding them to get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and the cell phone policy still applies during testing season.

It is important that students attend school on scheduled testing dates. If you are aware of a conflict that may cause your student to miss a test, please notify your student’s school as soon as possible.

We love a good spirit day! Students participated in pop-up Spirit Day this week as a part of our Sprinting Through Spring Attendance Awareness Month.

Kindergarten Registration

There’s an easy five-step process for parents wanting to register their child for kindergarten:

  1. Determine eligibility.
  2. Identify your local school.
  3. Gather documents.
  4. Fill out forms.
  5. Schedule an appointment (the student and one caregiver must be present).

If your student does live in the Woodburn ES boundary, please fill out the new student registration intake form. This form will be submitted to our school registrar, Jackie Garcia, who will be able to assist you with the new student registration process.

Why Attendance Matters

We can work together to help your child come to school every day and do well in school.

How you can help:

  1. Have a set bedtime and morning routine.
  2. Get clothes and backpack ready at night.
  3. Keep your child home only if they are really sick (fever, vomitting, contagious).
  4. Tell your child school is important for learning and seeing friends.
  5. If your child feels worried about school, let your child’s teacher or counselor know.

5 students pose with a sign that says "Woodburn"

We are so proud of our 6th graders for reprsenting Woodburn so well at All-County Choral Festival this past weekend!
