Food Share Program
Thank you for supporting the Franconia Elementary Food Share Program
Hello! Over the last several months, we have been able to create a food share program at Franconia Elementary that services twelve families suffering from food insecurity. We are refining our process for solicitation of donations so that we can provide more balanced meals for these families in hopes of increasing their enjoyment of the meals we help to provide for them.
Food bags are sent home on Friday afternoon, so donations for this sign up will need to be delivered by Thursday, 5/7/2026, by 4:30PM.

This weekend at Holmes Middle School in Alexandria, 3 Franconia band students performed at the Virginia Band and Orchestra Director’s Association Solo & Ensemble Festival. We are pleased to report that ALL students received SUPERIOR ratings (the highest possible rating)!

It’s as Easy as 1-2-3
There’s an easy five-step process for parents wanting to register their child for kindergarten:
- Determine eligibility.
- Identify your local school.
- Gather documents.
- Fill out forms.
- Schedule an appointment.
After the appointment at the school (the student and one caregiver must be present), the student will be ready for orientation and any other introductory events each school may host. Read more about the registration process.

Parents may register their children online for kindergarten through grade 12. Learn how to begin the online registration process. When registering, parents will create (or log in to an existing) SIS ParentVUE account.

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener Results Now Available
Students in grades 3-12 took the SEL Screener during the month of March, providing information on their SEL skills like achieving goals, understanding and managing emotions, establishing and maintaining relationships, and making responsible decisions. The screener also asks students how well their school community makes them feel valued, included, and supported.
Individual student SEL Screener results are now available to families in the Documents section of SIS ParentVUE. For families who do not have an active ParentVUE account, we will share copies with you directly.
For support in understanding your individual student’s results or for ideas on how to support them at home, please review the Family Guide or reach out to our school staff with any questions.
Twain Community Night – Thursday, May 14, 2026, 6-8pm
The Mark Twain Middle School PTA looks forward to joining the Mark Twain administration, teachers and staff in welcoming the greater Twain MS community to this annual family event.
Twain Community Night is open to current and new students including rising 7th graders from our pyramid elementary schools.
This is a fun evening for both students and parents to meet your future teachers, see the school and participate in fun activities.

PTA CORNER
General Updates
Our next PTA meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 7, from 7-8pm in the Franconia cafeteria. Please join us! We will be talking about the slate of candidates for next year's board, planning for next year's activities, among other items. We are a member organization and want your input on what we have planned.
School Supplies: we are finalizing next year's school supplies vendor, seeking out a lower cost, higher value service than what we'd been receiving the last few years. Be on the lookout in the coming weeks for that info. Our goal is to actually get those items ordered before you all disappear for the summer and have them delivered directly to the school in the fall. All you will have to do is lift a finger or two! Easy, peasy.

Here are a few highlights for the week:
Monday, May 4 — An Enchanted Beginning PTA will provide an enchanted breakfast for teachers and staff. Families can sign up to bring breakfast items or help with setup.
Wednesday, May 6 — The Hero’s Quest... ...for Snacks. Waddles will help deliver afternoon treats, and we need snack donations and volunteers to help distribute them.
Thursday, May 7 — Seeds of Knowledge Students are invited to bring in a flower for their teacher. Real, drawn, or handmade flowers are welcome. Consider adding one word to the flower that describes your teacher.
Friday, May 8 — Happily Ever After PTA will provide a catered lunch and closing celebration. Families can sign up to bring drinks or desserts, help with cleanup, or send in a small gift for a teacher or specialist.
Other activities are also planned. A flyer with the full week’s details is attached and is coming home in Wednesday folders. Thank you for helping us celebrate the wonderful teachers and staff who make Franconia such a special place.

Required Immunizations
Required Immunizations for Rising 7th and Rising 12th GradersThe following immunizations are required for students entering 7th and 12th grade each school year.
All students entering 7th grade are required to receive one dose of each of the following immunizations prior to the beginning of school: Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis booster (Tdap), Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY), and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine.
- To meet the Tdap requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age 7 or older.
- To meet the MenACWY requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age 10 or older.
- To meet the HPV requirement, the vaccination should be given between the ages of 11 to 12 or as early as 9 years old.
- As a parent/guardian, you may decide that your child will not receive the HPV vaccination. The school does not require documentation if a parent/guardian elects for their student not to receive the HPV vaccination.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to plan ahead by scheduling an appointment with your child’s health care provider now to avoid the rush this summer. Please consider getting your child’s immunizations early so that they can attend school in the fall. Summer is a busy time for families and healthcare providers. As long as your child meets the age requirements listed above, they can be immunized at any time.
Immunization Events for FCPS StudentsFCPS, in partnership with Inspire Health Alliance, will provide school-required immunizations and optional flu shots for all FCPS students at no out-of-pocket cost. Multiple events will take place at designated FCPS locations.
Dates will be made available throughout the school year. Parents or guardians may view upcoming events and schedule an appointment for their student. Participation is voluntary. Additional immunization resources are also available.
Ombuds
Our Office of the Ombuds Is at Your Service!
Ombuds staff engage with FCPS staff, families, and students to offer resources and improve the experience of each and every member of the FCPS community. They work as an independent confidential resource to help get answers to questions, resolve concerns, and hear complaints regarding FCPS matters.
Ombuds staff do not make or change decisions, policies, or regulations. They do not take sides, and they do not provide legal advice.

Infant and Toddler Resources
Resources to Help Infants and Toddlers Meet Milestones Are you concerned about your infant, toddler, or preschool-aged child’s development? Resources are available if your child exhibits difficulties in one or more of the following areas: communication, fine and/or gross motor skills, self-help skills, problem-solving, and attention skills. Learn more about typical developmental milestones.
The Infant & Toddler Connection of Virginia (ITC) provides evaluations and services for children (0-36 months) who have developmental delays or medical conditions that may affect development. Parents are encouraged to contact ITC at 703-246-7121 to share their concerns.
Early Childhood Child Find is the process of identifying children with potential special education needs between the ages of 20 months and 5 years (children must be two by September 30).
FCPS Early Childhood Identification and Services (ECID&S) offers a free referral process to identify potential developmental delays or disabilities. Special education services are provided for all children who are found eligible through the referral process. Parents are encouraged to call 571-423-4121 with questions.
Month of the Military Child
April is the Month of the Military Child! Every year we take the opportunity to recognize military-connected youth for their service and contribution to our community. Fairfax County Public Schools is proud to have over 14,000 military-connected youth as a part of our student body. We appreciate the varied life experiences they bring to our school community, and recognize their strength and resilience. National Arab American Heritage Month
FCPS is proud to celebrate National Arab American Heritage Month in April. This special month provides an opportunity to recognize the history and valuable contributions of Arab Americans. Arab Americans have ancestry in one of the world’s 22 Arab nations, which are located from northern Africa through western Asia. The people of these nations are ethnically, politically, and religiously diverse but share a common cultural and linguistic heritage.
