Principal’s Message

Happy Friday Wolverine Community,
Last Thursday, I was able to visit the AP Art Show in Springbank. Wow, these young artists are truly talented. In addition, I was able to see new members of the National Art Honor Society be inducted.

Huge Band News- All-State: Over the weekend, we had 5 students participate in the All-Va Band and Orchestra Event. The quality of these performances was outstanding, especially given the fact that they only rehearsed for 2 days! Our students had the chance to work with world-class clinicians, learn some incredibly new (and challenging!) repertoire, and meet other exceptional musicians from across the state!

Air Force Band Side-By-Side: Last Thursday, a group of 9 West Po students were invited to sit in with the United States Air Force Band and perform the piece “Vesuvius”, by Frank Ticheli, with Mr. Ticheli himself conducting! The students had the opportunity to engage in a Q&A with Mr. Ticheli and learn more about him and his composing process. The students had the opportunity to perform at Schlesinger Hall, which is one of the premier concert venues in Virginia.

WGI World Championships: Late last week, the South County Combined Indoor Drumline (consisting of students from West Potomac, South County, and Hayfield) competed at the WGI World Championships in Dayton, Ohio with their 2026 show “REDACTED”. The students’ performance in the preliminary round landed them a spot as one of 15 finalist groups in the country. They poured everything they had into the finals performance the next day, earned a higher score than their prelims run, and placed THIRD IN THE COUNTRY in their class!!!!! This is the third time in FCPS history (and only 2nd group to do so) that a Fairfax-based indoor drumline has earned a medal in their class! CONGRATS!! The graphic posted by WGI features West Po’s own Marcus Rusten on tenors! The multi-cam view of their performance can be found here.
On Monday, our National Honor Society completed a campus clean-up on our own campus.

Lastly, THANK YOU again to our amazing Administrative Professionals for all they do for West Potomac each day!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Jessica Statz, Principal

Next Mock Test Date 5/9/26 REGISTER HERE
Most students will show a strong preference for either the SAT or ACT format. This preference usually results in students naturally testing the SAT equivalent of 100 points higher on their preferred test. Sponsored by PTSA, mock tests are offered through Applerouth to help students determine their preferred format and establish baseline test scores – not to mention the benefits of practice. Sophomores can make their junior year less hectic by determining test preference late in their sophomore year!
Need Based Scholarships for mock tests and classes are available through the College and Career Center
