Food Share Program
Thank you for supporting the Franconia Elementary Food Share Program
Hello! Over the last several months, we have been able to create a food share program at Franconia Elementary that services twelve families suffering from food insecurity. We are refining our process for solicitation of donations so that we can provide more balanced meals for these families in hopes of increasing their enjoyment of the meals we help to provide for them.
Food bags are sent home on Friday afternoon, so donations for this sign up will need to be delivered by Thursday, 4/30/2026, by 4:30PM.

The Franconia Penguin Talent Show
Franconia Elementary is proud to present the 2026 Penguin Talent Show. If you are interested in auditioning for a spot in the show, you and a parent will need to read and agree to the guidelines below. Then you must fill out the permission slip form. Next, return the form to Mrs. Yortzidis by April 24.
Please carefully read the guidelines before signing the form.
- Students are asked to discuss their ideas for the talent show with their parents. Parents need to make sure song choices or the performance piece is appropriate for a school talent show.
- Teachers and administrators will help determine if the act is appropriate and demonstrates talent when the child auditions.
- Students must know their entire routine for the audition. A panel of teachers will determine if the act will be a part of the Penguin Talent Show.
- Students are expected to provide their own music. Please make an audio copy of your music before the audition and either put music on a USB or email the music to Mrs. Stump at kestump@fcps.edu prior to the audition. You must come prepared. No cell phones please.
- Filling out a permission slip does not mean that your child will be in the talent show. That will be determined during auditions.
- Students will be notified if they are a part of the final show.
- Performances shouldn’t be more than 3 minutes.
- If you are singing, you must sing either Acapella or to background music with no words.
- If you are performing in a group, EVERY MEMBER of the group must return a signed permission slip.
School Auditions will be held on Friday, May 1, 2026 during the school day. Your child will audition during their specials time on that day. We are looking for the BEST talent. ARE YOU THE NEXT TOP TALENT?
All forms must be turned in by April 24. We will not accept any forms after the deadline. Return the form to Mrs. Yortzidis.

It’s as Easy as 1-2-3
There’s an easy five-step process for parents wanting to register their child for kindergarten:
- Determine eligibility.
- Identify your local school.
- Gather documents.
- Fill out forms.
- Schedule an appointment.
After the appointment at the school (the student and one caregiver must be present), the student will be ready for orientation and any other introductory events each school may host. Read more about the registration process.
💻 Try Online Registration (recommended)
Parents may register their children online for kindergarten through grade 12. Learn how to begin the online registration process. When registering, parents will create (or log in to an existing) SIS ParentVUE account.

March Into Reading Month
Read-a-Thon
March 9th - March 27th, 2026
It's Official: Read-a-Thon has concluded! Thanks to the incredible support of our Franconia Elementary community, we’ve raised an astonishing $13,635 and read a combined 237,134 minutes! That's an amazing accomplishment and goes a long way towards our goal. To celebrate, we WILL be having an all-school snow cone party on June 5th!!!! We will also be having Slimeapalooza with Mr. Smith and Mrs. Nyland on June 15th. Top readers, get ready to cover them with ooze! (This includes the winners from last year who never got a chance to partake in the slimy mess.)
But the fun doesn’t stop here! We’re still accepting donations for the next 10 days. Every little bit helps, so keep spreading the word!
Important Reminder for Readers:
All readers who have received donations need to log in to the Read-a-Thon site and spend their RAT bucks within the next 10 days! Once the store closes, it won't reopen, so don’t miss out!

Infant and Toddler Resources
Resources to Help Infants and Toddlers Meet Milestones Are you concerned about your infant, toddler, or preschool-aged child’s development? Resources are available if your child exhibits difficulties in one or more of the following areas: communication, fine and/or gross motor skills, self-help skills, problem-solving, and attention skills. Learn more about typical developmental milestones.
The Infant & Toddler Connection of Virginia (ITC) provides evaluations and services for children (0-36 months) who have developmental delays or medical conditions that may affect development. Parents are encouraged to contact ITC at 703-246-7121 to share their concerns.
Early Childhood Child Find is the process of identifying children with potential special education needs between the ages of 20 months and 5 years (children must be two by September 30).
FCPS Early Childhood Identification and Services (ECID&S) offers a free referral process to identify potential developmental delays or disabilities. Special education services are provided for all children who are found eligible through the referral process. Parents are encouraged to call 571-423-4121 with questions.
Month of the Military Child
April is the Month of the Military Child! Every year we take the opportunity to recognize military-connected youth for their service and contribution to our community. Fairfax County Public Schools is proud to have over 14,000 military-connected youth as a part of our student body. We appreciate the varied life experiences they bring to our school community, and recognize their strength and resilience. National Arab American Heritage Month
FCPS is proud to celebrate National Arab American Heritage Month in April. This special month provides an opportunity to recognize the history and valuable contributions of Arab Americans. Arab Americans have ancestry in one of the world’s 22 Arab nations, which are located from northern Africa through western Asia. The people of these nations are ethnically, politically, and religiously diverse but share a common cultural and linguistic heritage. April is School Library Month and it's a great time to celebrate the essential role that school librarians play in the lives of students. School librarians ensure students have access to a wide variety of high-quality books and resources that connect them to the world and build a culture of literacy. Librarians develop lessons that are meaningful to students and help them develop critical thinking, inquiry, and information literacy skills. They support learning across all subject areas by teaching students the skills to be independent problem-solvers and creative thinkers. By creating a safe environment for all students to be engaged and curious learners, FCPS libraries are places where everyone belongs.
