The end of the year is approaching! With that comes testing season. On Monday (April 27), all juniors will be taking their Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) Reading test. Approximately half of the students will take it in the morning and half in the afternoon.
The following week (May 4-8) begins the two-week AP Testing window. Students tend to be anxious as this time approaches, so I encourage you to reach out to your child and make sure they are doing okay. They've put in the work all year and they are ready for success!
This week's newsletter has a reminder of the overall AP schedule (which days are blue days, which days are red days, which tests are in the morning, which tests are in the afternoon). I have also added back in the request for items for our Jefferson Junction as supplies are starting to get low. It concludes with more TJ success stories at the end!
As always, please reach out if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Mike Roth
TJHSST Director of Communications

Director of Communications Note: The following comes from FCPS. We have sent notices to those Class of 2027 members still missing their required Meningococcal vaccine, but I thought seeing this full message was important for TJ families who have siblings who might be entering 7th grade next year.
The following immunizations are required for students entering 7th and 12th grade each school year.
All students entering 7th grade are required to receive one dose of each of the following immunizations prior to the beginning of school: Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis booster (Tdap), Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY), and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine.
- To meet the Tdap requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age 7 or older.
- To meet the MenACWY requirement, the vaccination must be administered at age 10 or older.
- To meet the HPV requirement, the vaccination should be given between the ages of 11 to 12 or as early as 9 years old.
- As a parent/guardian, you may decide that your child will not receive the HPV vaccination. The school does not require documentation if a parent/guardian elects for their student not to receive the HPV vaccination.
All students entering 12th grade are to receive two doses of the Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY) prior to the beginning of school. To meet the MenACWY 12th grade requirement, one dose must be administered at age 16 or older.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to plan ahead by scheduling an appointment with your child’s health care provider now to avoid the rush this summer. Please consider getting your child’s immunizations early so that they can attend school in the fall. Summer is a busy time for families and healthcare providers. As long as your child meets the age requirements listed above, they can be immunized at any time.

As our school community grows and changes, more of our students and families are facing practical needs. That’s why we’re excited to have the Jefferson Junction, our brand-new non-perishable food and hygiene resource for students.
But we can't do it without your help.
We're asking our amazing TJ parents and families to partner with us in stocking the pantry shelves. Whether it's some healthy snacks or hygiene essentials, every donation makes a difference. We will collect donations on a rolling basis to keep the pantry stocked. All donations will be used to support TJ students.
🛒 Want to help? Here’s how:
- Visit our Amazon Wish List and have items sent directly to the school: https://a.co/giHCfQN Attention: Danielle Armstrong, Social Worker
- Drop off non-perishable donations at the school: Attention: Danielle Armstrong, Social Worker

Photo Gallery of Shakespeare Performance Festival on Instagram
One of TJ's traditions throughout its 40-year history is its Shakespeare focus in the Humanities classes. That includes the annual Shakespeare Performance Festival that takes place each year in IBET!
This year's festival took place this past Thursday and Friday with freshmen being allowed to sign up for different Shakespeare-related seminars. Some involved studying his written word - including being a playwright, how to direct, set design - while others looked at the art of stage acting - including movement, expression, and the ever-popular unarmed stage combat (and how to do it safely).
Thank you to the Educational Theatre Company and TJ Theatre Students (who got to run some of the seminars themselves!) for your hard work in putting together this engaging learning experience for our freshmen students!
