Roadrunner Rundown
April 20, 2026
Principal's Message
Dear Marshall Road Families,
The Madison Pyramid Day of Service was a wonderful experience for students and staff. This event was possible because of the donations of many in our MRES community. Thank you so much for your support which allowed the following to take place:
- We created 193 cards for local heroes and 164 cards for military service members - way to go Pre-K, K, 2nd and 5th graders
- We planted 301 seed cups with vegetables seeds - way to go Pre-K, K and 6th grade
- We created blankets that were donated to 8 children who are in the hospital right now and 101 dog toys for a shelter - way to go 1st grade and friends
- We created 10 centerpieces for a home for elder citizens - way to go 2nd grade
- We bagged 74 lunches for Path Forward and made 40 welcome bracelets - way to go 4th grade
- We gathered trash and yard waste here at MRES and at Meadow Lane Park - way to go 3rd and 5th grade
- We prepared 97 hygiene kits - way to go 5th grade
- We gathered and sorted 567 household items for the Committee for Helping Others - way to go 6th grade
- We have created 25 origami cranes for peace and there are more to come - nice job 3rd grade
Our teachers, academic and specials teachers, will begin the class placement process for next year soon, reflecting on the school year and discussing your children with whom they have developed relationships; this process is both careful and thorough.
We seek to build positive communities which is more complex than just assigning students to a particular teacher. We strive for an even mix of girls and boys, accounting for new students who will join us next year. We believe it is important for children to have friends in class and we want them to be open to forming new friendships.
Teachers spend many hours each day with their students and know who works well with whom. However, we invite parents to offer their perspective on friendships and on any unique needs your child has that we might not be aware of. Please do not make requests for a specific teacher. We have the utmost confidence in all our teachers and have seen over the years that children and parents are able to form strong academic and personal relationships with many different teachers and styles. It might also be helpful for you to know that students often rotate out of their homerooms for different subjects and small groups. We may also be hiring new teachers who will be wonderful additions to our faculty.
Your input is optional but if you have information to share about your child that will assist us, please complete this form no later than Friday, May 8. Please know that this is a hard deadline. Any requests received after this date will not be considered. When completing the form, please be sure to list each child in your family separately and identify the grade your child will be in next year. Teachers will not schedule conferences specifically to discuss placement. Finally, let me remind you that we will take into account the information that you send us, but those final decisions rest only with our school team; we cannot guarantee any one outcome for any/all families. Thank you for being mindful of the process and deadlines.
There will be no school tomorrow due to the Virginia State Elections.
Have a great week!

School Events and Information
Every Day Counts
Effective learning takes place by consistent effort over time. Every day builds on the day before and prepares the soil for the next day. Coming to school is vital to making sure this important work happens.
Kindergarten Orientation
We are hosting a kindergarten orientation on Wednesday, May 13 at 2:00 pm for parents and new rising kindergarten students. Families will be given a tour of the school and will have an opportunity to visit a kindergarten classroom as well as learn about the kindergarten experience at MRES.
- When families arrive at 2:00 pm, rising kindergarten students will go to the kindergarten classrooms for a meet-n-greet with the kindergarten team while parents attend a brief overview in the cafeteria with the administration. Parent(s) and rising kindergarten student will then reunite for a tour of the school.
- Student registration does not need to be completed to attend this orientation.
- You do not need to sign up/register to attend this orientation. Orientation will last about an hour or less.
- We will schedule two summer tours for those who are unable to attend on May 13th (typically, these are held in August).
Yearbook Sales
Yearbook sales have begun, and pre-orders will be accepted through Friday, May 1. Online orders can be placed using this Yearbook Order Form. If you would prefer to pay $20.00 by cash or check, make checks payable to Marshall Road Elementary School, place cash or check in an envelope and write your child’s name, teacher name and YEARBOOK on the envelope. Each yearbook is packed with candid photos, memories of the 2025-2026 school year, staff photos and individual photos of each student by grade level. Staff Spotlight
Hooray for Mrs. Marucchi, our wonderful AART, who snagged the PTA Priority Parking Spot this week! Since moving to Virginia in 2011, Mrs. Marucchi has worked in FCPS as a 4th grade AAP Center teacher, 3rd grade Local Level AAP teacher, and now in her current position as an AART (Advanced Academic Resource Teacher) at Marshall Road. Teaching is a lifelong enjoyment career for Mrs. Marucchi. She especially loves being an AART at MRES because she interacts with the majority of students. Marshall Road holds a special place in Mrs. Marucchi’s heart because of the rich cultural experiences that surround our community. This year she teamed up with 5th grade teacher Ms. Ramos to start a 5th grade student council where every 5th grader has an opportunity to learn what student council looks and sounds like. She hopes to make this a tradition at MRES.
In her spare time, Mrs. Marucchi likes exercising and kayaking with her husband of 36 years. She also looks forward to visiting her adult children. Last year she and her husband spent 3 weeks in California with their 26-year-old son and recently she traveled to New Zealand to visit her 28-year-old son who is currently living in the south pacific. Her 3 boys love to travel and she is looking forward to seeing the world through their eyes! On her own Mrs. Marucchi is an avid vegetable gardener, volunteers at a food bank, and hikes/cycles with her friends. Fun fact: While is NZ she took a helicopter, landed, and hiked for 3 hours on a glacier!
