Dear Woodburn Staff and Community,
It gives me great pleasure to announce that Ms. Mariela DeKraker, currently serving as a Multilingual Learner Assessment Teacher in the Office of Multilingual Learner Services, will be serving as the Acting Assistant Principal of Woodburn Elementary School, effective May 11th, 2026. Ms. DeKraker will serve in this role while our current Assistant Principal, Kelley Dauberman, is out on leave through September 2026.

Ms.DeKraker is a bilingual educational leader with more than 20 years of experience in Fairfax County Public Schools, where she has served as a Multilingual Learner Assessment and Consultation Teacher since 2003. She partners with school and central office leaders to strengthen instructional systems, build staff capacity, and support data-driven decision-making through the MTSS framework, with a focus on advancing outcomes for multilingual learners. Mariela began her career as an ESOL teacher in Fairfax County and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. She holds a B.A. in English from Old Dominion University, a master’s degree from George Mason University, and an Educational Leadership endorsement from Longwood University. Originally from Venezuela, she is fluent in Spanish. Mariela is the proud mother of two sons and enjoys supporting them in their high school and collegiate wrestling pursuits. We look forward to having you at Woodburn!
