Principal's Message April 19, 2026

pl

Dear Stone Middle School Families,

What a spectacular weekend it was for our community! From the high-energy atmosphere at the high school gym to the creative magic on our own stage, our students showed out!

I want to take a moment to commend our students for their outstanding behavior as of late. This past weekend, our students were phenomenal in the way they supported one another.

Beyond the events, I am seeing this excellence every day within our halls. Students are exhibiting positive behaviors in the hallways, attending their classes, and putting forth their very best efforts in their schoolwork. I am incredibly proud every single day to be the principal of such a wonderful school. We are a community full of great students who come from supportive families and are guided by amazing educators.

Weekend Highlights

Hoops at the High School

Friday night at Westfield HS was a memorable experience for our basketball teams during the Stone vs. Liberty games.

  • Lady Panthers: Congratulations on your hard-fought victory!

  • Boys Team: A huge shout-out for your incredible spirit—you fought a great fight.

  • School Spirit: Our student section was electric! Between the energy of the pep band and the "ESPN table," the atmosphere was world-class.

The Theatre Spotlight

Back on campus, our theatre department delivered a fantastic production of The Sleeping Beauty & the Beast. I found myself laughing out loud throughout the show; the talent and comedic timing of our students was top-tier.

Stone Basketball & Spring Play

Our Stone Basketball Game & Spring Play (The Sleeping Beauty & the Beast) and other extracurriculars and activities are made possible through the support of our community. FCPS gets about 70% of its budget through the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, and we hope to continue providing our students with the resources and opportunities that make our school division excellent when the Board of Supervisors finalizes its Fiscal Year 2027 Budget on May 5. Make your voice heard: reach out to your local representatives and share your ideas about funding public education. Learn more by visiting the budget webpage

3rd Quarter Report Cards available in ParentVUE

All report cards will be mailed each quarter for parents who have not opted in for Paperless Report Cards. They will not be printed and handed out to students. This is an FCPS School Board decision.

All non-paperless report cards were mailed on Monday, April 13th.

Going paperless is a more environmentally friendly and expedient option for receiving your child’s report cards.

Here's how you can opt-in to Paperless Report Cards for immediate access:

  1. Log into ParentVUE, click on "My Account," and select “Go Paperless.”
  2. All parents/guardians living with the student at the same address must have an active SIS ParentVUE account to opt-in.
  3. Once selected, the “Go Paperless” option will apply to all associated students, no matter their grade level.
  4. If you’ve already opted for paperless for your secondary students, it will automatically apply to any younger siblings at the elementary level too!

If you do not have a ParentVUE account, please email Mrs. Amy Copeland at alcopeland1@fcps.edu or call 703-631-5500.

SOL

Support Your Children During Important Spring Assessments

Students will be participating in spring assessments based on their grade level and courses. This includes summative assessments like Standards of Learning (SOL) tests, which measure what a student knows, and progress assessments like Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) tests, which measure where they are in their learning.

FCPS encourages all families to support their students in taking these tests. Virginia requires schools to test at least 95% of students on SOLs, so when families choose not to participate in testing, it can impact a school’s accreditation, accountability ratings, and ability to measure student progress accurately.

Parents and caregivers can help their children perform their best on these tests by reminding them to get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and the cell phone policy still applies during testing season.

It is important that students attend school on scheduled testing dates. If you are aware of a conflict that may cause your student to miss a test, please notify us as soon as possible.
