Principal’s Message to Families

Dear Ravensworth Families,

We enjoyed a full schedule this week which included our Purple Up Spirit Week, Author’s Visit, Read-A-thon, Preschool FBI officer visit, Purple Up Military Child Celebration, the Superintendent’s Community Meeting, and the All-County Choral Concert at LBSS.

During our author’s visit, Ms. Hena Khan shared her story as a child growing up in the Rockville, Md area.  Our students learned how she plans her stories including where she gets ideas for her book. Many of our students connected with her book characters, and we all enjoyed Ms. Hena Khan’s visit.  Thank you, Ms. Sloan, for hosting this event and thank you to our fantastic PTA for sponsoring this inspiring assembly.

Thank you to all the parents and staff who attended our Superintendent’s Community meeting on Thursday evening. Dr. Reid provided an open forum for discussion based on community members’ questions and concerns.  It was incredible to see the passion for education with the focus on our students.

With gratitude,

Shannon Mueck

Principal

Family Input for Class Placements 2026-2027

As we begin to plan for the 2026-2027 school year, we are inviting your input. Creating class assignments requires careful consideration and the involvement of many perspectives. We know a good teacher-student match and a productive mix of children are ingredients for success. Should you have additional information about your specific child that school staff may not know, particularly regarding learning style and classroom environment, we ask that you please complete the  Class Placement Input Form

no later than May 9th, 2026. If you have more than one child attending RES, please complete one form per child.

We assure you that with or without a form, each child’s strengths and needs are considered. As in the past, families will receive class placement notification just prior to school starting.

📚 Finishing Up Journeys and Themes in Language Arts

Benchmark Unit 6 in Language Arts is coming to a close! Over the last several weeks, our students have learned, read, and written about the different lessons that stories across cultures can teach us.

Connect with your child’s learning at school with these fun questions and hands-on activities at home:

  • Question: If you could go on an adventure like one of the characters you’ve read about in this unit, which one would it be and why?
  • Activity: Ask your child to imagine that they’re going on an adventure. Ask them to draw the items they’ll need to take with them. Would their supplies be different if the adventure was underwater or somewhere very cold?

At the end of the unit, your child will take their unit magazine home. The magazine includes an activity calendar with fun ways to help students build on what they’re learning at each grade level. You can also find information on how to support your child’s reading at home on the Benchmark Families website.
