Fairfax County Public School's Update

Dear Families,

We want to let you know that we are resuming the conversation regarding potential boundary adjustments affecting the Greenway Downs, Jefferson Village, City Park Homes, and Kingsley Commons areas, as well as Glasgow Middle School changes related to Beech Tree and Belvedere elementary schools.

Several changes were previously considered with the goals of keeping neighborhoods together, eliminating attendance islands and schools outside of their boundaries, and addressing capacity concerns. We were unable to identify a viable solution within the timeline for the comprehensive boundary review and would like to revisit this conversation with the community. With the School Board approval of boundary changes in January 2026, the superintendent identified several areas, or “hot spots,” that require extended review to allow for additional community engagement and input. The Greenway Downs, Jefferson Village, City Park Homes, Kingsley Commons, and Glasgow Middle School communities are included in those areas. The superintendent directed staff to present boundary recommendations for those areas to the School Board by January 2027. Please join us for a community meeting on Tuesday, April 28, 6:30-8 p.m., at Falls Church High School. We will provide a recap of past boundary conversations and discuss next steps in the process. We will also review draft maps that were previously developed as a starting point and gather your feedback. Register to attend by clicking in person or virtual based on your preference.

Your input is essential, as we continue this work together to develop a boundary that best serves our students, families, and the community.

Fairfax County Public Schools

🍽️No-Cost Meals - April 21

On April 21, while schools are closed for students for the special election, FCPS will provide free lunch and a snack for children 18 and younger from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at select locations. Meals must be eaten on-site, and enrichment activities will be offered. We are proud to support our students’ health and well-being, even on days when school is not in session. See the list of meal locations.

No Early Release - April 22

Students will now have a traditional full day of instruction and be released at the regular dismissal time on April 22, which was previously an early release Wednesday. This adjustment allows our staff to still have dedicated time for planning, collaboration, and professional learning without reducing instructional time on other school days.

SY27 Enrollment Intent

TLES Families, we need your help in projecting our total enrollment for the next school year. For families NOT returning to Timber Lane ES for the 2026-2027 school year, please complete the student intention form. Thank you!

SY27 Class Placement Input

As we make class placements for next year, we consider many factors including individual student information, teacher input, and social relationships.  Every class will have a blend of children with diverse needs, personalities, and learning interests.  Due to the many factors we must consider in creating classroom placements, including the reassignment of some teachers to a different grade level and the hiring of new teachers, requests for a specific teacher cannot be honored.  Please complete the SY27 Class Placement Input form if you have information you would like us to consider by Friday, May 8th. Please complete a separate form for each child.

📆Updates to 2026-27 School Year Calendar

  • The School Board voted to direct the superintendent to designate Veterans Day as a standard instructional day for the 2026-27 school year. Because this day was added, the 2026-27 school year will now end for students on Wednesday, June 16, 2027. Find additional information on BoardDocs. View the updated complete school year calendar on FCPS’ website.

The last day of school for the current school year — Wednesday, June 17, 2026 — has not changed.
