April 17, 2026

Happy Friday, Panther Families:

April is the Month of the Military Child, and we proudly recognize and celebrate our military-connected students and families. We understand that military life often brings frequent moves, transitions, and new beginnings. Despite these challenges, our students continue to demonstrate resilience, strength, and excellence. To our military families:  Thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and the many ways you enrich our school community.

This week, we proudly hosted our inaugural Geography Bee, and what an exciting success it was! Congratulations to our outstanding winners: 1st Place – Richmond Kwarteng, 2nd Place – Andrew Burns, and 3rd Place – Michael Vito. We are incredibly proud of these students; this was no small feat, and their achievement reflects true academic excellence.

Our 3rd Quarter Honor Roll Celebration will take place on Friday, April 24, 2026. Families of students who earned Honor Roll for the 3rd Quarter should have already received an RSVP via email. This celebration will highlight the value of service, and we invite families to consider bringing a canned good or nonperishable item to support our South Lakes Pyramid “Stuff the Bus” initiative and help those in need within our community.

As we enter the final stretch of the school year, please mark your calendars for these important events:

STUDENT SERVICES

Make Sure Your Children Are Up-to-Date on Immunizations

Please make sure your child has all of their necessary immunizations. Remember, all students are required to be immunized against certain diseases to attend school in Virginia. This is an important part of keeping children healthy!

Starting Monday, May 18, students who have not provided proof of immunization may not be allowed to attend school. You can check your child’s immunization status and submit updated immunization information by accessing SIS ParentVUE. If you have questions about your child’s needs, please contact our Student Information Assistant, Cristina Hannon at CMHannon@fcps.edu.

Please check with your health care provider to make sure your child is up to date on required immunizations for the 2025-26 school year. If your child needs an immunization, make an appointment with your healthcare provider, schedule an appointment with Inspire Health Alliance, visit the Fairfax County Health Department website for a list of child immunization clinics, or view other Immunization Resources. Be wise and immunize!

SAVE-THE-DATES: SOL Testing Schedule

The SOLs are an important opportunity for students to demonstrate what they have learned and what areas they may still need support in. Please partner with us by encouraging your student(s) to do their best on each assessment. Our goal is to help students reach their full potential, and an accurate SOL score is an important data point in that mission.

All testing begins at 7:30am.  Please avoid scheduling appointments on testing days and help your child arrive at school on time.

May 6: Reading 7 and 8

May 12: Physical Science (8th grade only)

May 14: Mathematics

Social Emotional Learning with Second Step

In this week’s lesson, students learned about how to find solutions to a conflict that everyone can agree on. Family conversation starter: Ask your child about a conflict they recently had where they got something they wanted after it was resolved. Share a similar situation of your own.
