April Statewide Election: No School for Students April 21st
There will be no school for students on Tuesday, April 21, for the Virginia statewide election. Student activities, athletic practices, and events may proceed as scheduled.
FCPS will offer lunch and a snack at no cost to children aged 18 and under on April 21 at participating schools. The meals must be eaten on site. For more information, visit the FCPS Food and Nutrition Services webpage.
Adjusted Elementary Early Release Wednesdays
Students will now have a traditional full day of instruction and be released at the regular dismissal time on April 22, which was previously an early release Wednesday for elementary schools.
This adjustment allows our staff to still have dedicated time for planning, collaboration, and professional learning without reducing instructional time on other school days.
Updates to 2026-27 School Year Calendar
The School Board voted to direct the superintendent to designate Veterans Day as a standard instructional day for the 2026-27 school year. Because this day was added, the 2026-27 school year will now end for students on Wednesday, June 16, 2027. Find additional information on BoardDocs. View the updated complete school year calendar on FCPS’ website.
The last day of school for the current school year — Wednesday, June 17, 2026 — has not changed.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a growing part of our daily lives—from asking Siri a question to receiving personalized video recommendations on YouTube. As AI continues to shape how we live, learn, and connect, children and adults need to understand how it works. To support our families in exploring this topic, we are having a brief and informative virtual workshop to explore what AI is, how it works (at home and at school), and why it matters. Join us through Zoom on Wednesday, April 29 at 7:00pm.

It is time to start planning for our next school year. Developing class assignments each year is a complex process. School administration, classroom teachers, counselors, special education staff and specialists all have the opportunity to provide feedback on class groupings.
If you have feedback that you would like for us to consider, please add it to this Family Input Form no later than May 1, 2026. Late submissions will not be accepted. We will consider all feedback provided, but we are not always able to fulfill requests.
We respectfully ask that you do not request particular teachers. It is unfair to give special consideration to some families when it would be impossible to grant requests from all families. Please be aware that grade level assignments for staff sometimes change, due to late enrollments or other changes. Staff assignments are determined at the end of the summer.
We are excited to announce a Hygiene Drive sponsored by the SCA, running from April 13th through May 8th. We are seeking donations of essential items, including shampoo and conditioner, body wash or bar soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, and laundry detergent. Other much-needed supplies include dish soap, lotion (hand, body, and baby), sunscreen, wet wipes, lip balm, hand sanitizer, band-aids, hair accessories (ties, brushes, and combs), shaving cream, and pocket tissues. We welcome both full-sized and travel-sized donations, but we kindly ask that you include no sharp objects. Thank you for your support!
As a listening leader, connecting with community members across our school division is critical to Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid. Dr. Reid’s Community Conversations are opportunities for you to share your thoughts and ask questions. Events will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. (unless otherwise noted) on:
Child care and interpretation services will be provided. Events are open to all. Visit the superintendent’s engagement page for the most up-to-date information.
