A Message from Ms. Kirkland
We are excited to be starting the final quarter of the school year! It’s hard to believe how quickly the year has gone, and we are looking forward to a strong finish filled with meaningful learning and memorable experiences.
This week, our 5th grade students traveled to the Natural History Museum, an enriching experience made possible through the generous support of our PTO. We are grateful for the opportunities these funds provide to extend learning beyond the classroom.
Looking ahead to next week, we have several exciting events:
- Grade 1 will be visiting the National Zoo.
- Students in Grades 5 and 6 will participate in the All County Chorus Festival.
- Some of our 5th grade students will represent Mount Eagle at the Science Olympiad at Oakton High School.
We are also looking forward to our upcoming Earth Day Celebration on Saturday, April 21 from 10:00 AM–12:00 PM. Families are invited to join us for a variety of fun and engaging activities, including planting in our gardens, tie-dyeing, face painting, and creating bird feeders. We hope to see many of you there!
We are proud of our students for taking part in these opportunities to learn, perform, and connect as a community. As always, thank you for your partnership.
Warmly, Kate
Kate Kirkland, Principal

Child care and interpretation services will be provided. Events are open to all. Visit the superintendent’s engagement page for the most up-to-date information.
PTO Events & News
At Mount Eagle, every parent is a member of the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). It's a great way to connect with other parents, learn about how to support your child, and have fun! There are many ways you can share your voice, talents, and time. Check out the PTO Website for more information. It's available in multiple languages.
PTO Meeting, Thusday, April 23
Please join our PTO for our April Meeting at 6:30 pm. In addition to planning for our April 25 Earthy and and the May 1 Multicultural Night, we will be joined by our School Board Representative. Marcia St. John-Cunning. This is a great opportunity to share community concerns and hear about FCPS goals.

🍎 Make Every Day Count! The Importance of Attendance
Our goal is to maintain a chronic absenteeism rate below 10% by the end of this school year. Our current absentee rate is 15.9%.
As you plan upcoming trips and other family events, please remember the importance of sending your child to school every day. Review the FCPS School Year Calendar and try to plan any time away during breaks from school.
Children who show up for school regularly develop fundamental reading and math skills while building a habit of good attendance that will carry them into college and careers. Research shows that children who were chronically absent (missing 18 days or more) in kindergarten and first grade were far less likely to read proficiently at the end of third grade.
Learn how families can help form good attendance habits.
