Principal’s Message to Families
|
Ravensworth Families,
It was a pleasure to welcome students back into the building this week following spring break. Students were eager to reconnect with their teachers and classmates, quickly reengaging in classroom learning and routines. It’s hard to believe we’re already starting the fourth and final quarter of the school year. Our focus remains on ensuring all students feel safe, supported, and ready to learn as we build instructional momentum and support strong academic progress.

April is the Month of the Military Child! Every year we take the opportunity to recognize military-connected youth for their service and contribution to our community. Fairfax County Public Schools is proud to have over 14,000 military-connected youth as a part of our student body, including many students in the Ravensworth community. We appreciate the varied life experiences they bring to our school community and recognize their strength and resilience. We are so proud of our Ravensworth military students!
We were so excited to meet our upcoming Kindergarteners for Fall 2026 during our Kindergarten Orientation today. Our new Ravens had the opportunity to visit classrooms, engage in activities, and take a ride on the school bus. Thank you to all our parents who made this an extra special event!
This past Wednesday evening, Ms. Heiman and I were able to celebrate the incredible Raven Artwork displayed at the LBSS Pyramid Art Show. It was incredible to see the pride our students radiated when sharing and talking about their artwork. Thank you to our Art Teachers, Mrs. Fortenberry and Mrs. Mahon, for inspiring our students and developing their talents.
We look forward to our Purple Up for Military Kid’s Spirit Week next week, our Purple Up Day on Wednesday, and our Author’s visit and Librarian Appreciation.
Warmly,
Shannon Mueck
Principal
Patrol of the Month - Reagan Shideler

She comes to school early and ready to take on extra responsibilities. She offers to assist other patrols, and she strives to keep our Ravens safe. Keep up the great work, Reagan! |

Elementary Early Release Wednesday Update for April
Tuesday, April 21, is now a teacher workday and staff development day because of a recently announced special election that will impact all FCPS schools.
Students will have a traditional full day of instruction and be released at the regular dismissal time on April 22 and April 29, which were previously early release Wednesdays for elementary schools.
This adjustment allows our staff to still have dedicated time for planning, collaboration, and professional learning without reducing instructional time on other school days. Read Dr. Reid’s letter to elementary parents for more details.

Phones Off, Learning On
FCPS’ cell phone policy helps students focus, learn, and engage. When students put their phones away, they have more face-to-face interactions with their peers and teachers and more opportunities to develop resilience and problem-solving skills. Please remind your child that:
-
Cell phones and personal devices (earbuds, headsets, other items connected to the internet) must be off and away for the entire school day (bell to bell).
-
Smart watches that serve a dual purpose may be worn, but the phone features (texting, Internet viewing, and calls) are to be off when phone use is prohibited.
If you need to contact your child during the school day, please call our front office at [phone number]. Visit our cell phone policy webpage for more information and answers to frequently asked questions.
📚 Finishing Up Our Exploration of Technology and Society in Language Arts 📚
Students are finishing Benchmark Unit 5 in Language Arts! Over the last several weeks, our students have learned, read, and written about why and how we use technology.
Connect with your child’s learning at school with these fun questions and hands-on activities at home:
- Question: What do you think life would be like if we didn’t have cell phones or the internet?
- Activity: Ask your child to predict the next big invention in transportation, communication, or entertainment. Have them sketch it, name it, and explain how it works.
At the end of the unit, your child will take their unit magazine home. The magazine includes an activity calendar with fun ways to help students build on what they’re learning at each grade level. You can also find information on how to support your child’s reading at home on the Benchmark Families website.
Special Education Family Conference: Registration Open, Volunteers Needed

FCPS families are invited to register to attend this year’s conference. Childcare, accommodations, and language interpretation are available.
Families are also invited to register to serve as an event volunteer by Thursday, March 19. Volunteer hours will be awarded to student volunteers.
