2. A Note from the Principal
Dear Rocky Run Families-
We are back into the swing of things after a restful spring break! Somehow one week off just doesn't seem long enough. I popped into the building a few times over break to get caught up on some lingering items, and each time I marveled at our hard-working custodial staff that was busily getting the building and grounds in shape for the sprint to the end of the year. They take immense pride in the appearance of our building, and I am grateful for their dedication.
Even though spring break was a time to rest and relax, two important events in the Christian calendar occurred last week. Good Friday was on April 3, and is the day on which Christians annually observe the commemoration of the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Good Friday is a day of mourning. During special Good Friday services Christians meditate on Jesus's suffering and death on the cross, and what this means for their faith. Good Friday is the precursor to Easter Sunday, which fell on April 5. I join the entire RRMS community in wishing a joyous Easter to all the Rams that celebrate. The springtime celebration of Easter is the most important Christian holiday. It commemorates the resurrection of Jesus, who sacrificed so that Christians may have life with God after death. If anyone is looking to get rid of their surplus of Reese's Eggs, I will gladly take them off your hands!
This past week our 8th graders also attended the annual Finance Park fieldtrip which is an interactive, experiential simulation to teach them about budgeting, bills, salaries, etc. One of the most eye-opening realizations that our students make is how expensive it is to have children. Don't be surprised if you get a few extra hugs or "thank yous" in the coming days. Kudos to our amazing Civics team for organizing the meaningful event.
Finally, this past week (April 6-April 10) was designated as National Assistant Principal Appreciation Week. I want to acknowledge how appreciative I am to have Young Hong, Rachel Sweeney and Johnelle Hinkle on staff to support the students and instructional programming at Rocky Run. The school would not run smoothly without these amazing administrators, and I am truly grateful for their leadership.
Thank you for your continued support and please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Peter Kownacki Principal Rocky Run Middle School @pakownacki
