Roadrunner Roundup
Dear Roadrunner Families,
What a wonderful, albeit short, week back from spring break! We missed their presence and are so glad to have everyone back for this final stretch of the school year.
One of the biggest highlights of our week was welcoming our newest Roadrunners during today's Kindergarten Orientation! It was a pleasure to meet our incoming students and their families, and we especially enjoyed the time spent together during our fun PTA Playground Playdate. We already can't wait for the next school year to begin!
Looking ahead to next week, we are excited to host a Super Citizen Spirit Week! We invite all our students to join us in celebrating and spreading kindness throughout Little Run.
As we head toward the end of the year, please be sure to take notes on the "Upcoming Dates" section above, which now includes all major events. We especially ask families of students in grades 3-6 to take note of our upcoming SOL testing days. Please ensure students are here and on time for those days to ensure a smooth testing experience for all.
Thank you for your continued partnership and for being such a vital part of the Little Run family.
Sincerely,
Christie Yarn, Principal Alison Butler, Assistant Principal

It takes a village, and our village just got a little bigger! 🤝 Huge thanks to the PTA for hosting today’s playdate and to all the families who joined us for Kindergarten Orientation. We can’t wait to see these smiles back on campus soon!

Elementary Early Release Wednesday Update for April
Tuesday, April 21, is now a teacher workday and staff development day because of a recently announced special election that will impact all FCPS schools.
Students will have a traditional full day of instruction and be released at the regular dismissal time on April 22 and April 29, which were previously early release Wednesdays for elementary schools.
This adjustment allows our staff to still have dedicated time for planning, collaboration, and professional learning without reducing instructional time on other school days. Read Dr. Reid’s letter to elementary parents for more details.
April Statewide Election: No School for Students
There will be no school for students on Tuesday, April 21, for the Virginia statewide election. Student activities, athletic practices, and events may proceed as scheduled.
Fairfax County Public Schools will still exceed the required number of instructional hours for students, as set by the Virginia Department of Education.
2026-2027 Class Placement Information - Parent Input
As the end of the school year approaches, we are already looking ahead to next year. Our school team spends significant time creating heterogeneous classrooms with a balanced mix of academic needs, social dynamics, and student strengths.
Our Placement Process & Parent Input We believe that a successful classroom is built on instructional criteria and the individual needs of every student. To ensure this process remains fair and consistent for all families, we do not honor requests for specific teachers.
Staffing and grade-level assignments frequently change throughout the summer due to shifts in enrollment and personnel. Therefore, it is far more valuable for you to share specific academic or behavioral information rather than a name. Your insight, combined with our staff’s recommendations, helps us find the best environment for your child’s success.
Submission Details
If you have pertinent information to support your child’s placement, please complete the Parent Input Google Form. Deadline: May 8, 2026.

Halfway Through Journeys and Themes in Language Arts
We are halfway through Benchmark Unit 6 in Language Arts! Across grade levels, students have explored stories involving quests, challenges, and problem-solving.
Connect with your child’s learning at school with these fun questions and hands-on activities at home:
- Question: Which character has been your favorite from this unit and why?
- Activity: With your child, brainstorm a brand-new invention to solve a problem, like shoelaces that tie themselves or a clothes dryer that folds clothes. Ask your child to tell or write a story about someone using the invention.
At the end of the unit, your child will take their unit magazine home. The magazine includes an activity calendar with fun ways to help students build on what they’re learning at each grade level. You can also find information on how to support your child’s reading at home on the Benchmark Families website.
