A Message from the Principal

art show

Dear Belle View Families,

Welcome back! I hope Spring Break provided a wonderful opportunity to relax, spend quality time with family, and maybe even enjoy some sunshine and outdoor fun. It’s always so nice to return refreshed and ready for the final stretch of the school year.

Last night, we had the pleasure of hosting our Art Show, and it was truly a special event for our school community. A heartfelt thank you to Mrs. Paris and Mr. Rains for their creativity, time, and dedication in putting together such an incredible showcase. Every student had artwork on display, and it was inspiring to see each grade level contribute to the overall theme. The pride on our students’ faces as they shared their work was a wonderful reminder of the importance of the arts in education.

This week, our 6th graders traveled to Monticello in Charlottesville, VA, where they explored the architectural, personal, and political legacy of Thomas Jefferson. Experiences like this bring classroom learning to life in meaningful ways. Did you know that our amazing PTA helps make trips like this possible? Through their fundraising efforts, they cover the cost of charter buses and help offset admission fees, ensuring that these enriching opportunities remain accessible and affordable for all students. We are incredibly grateful for their ongoing support.

Looking ahead to next week, a local Girl Scout troop will be assisting us by organizing and donating many of the items currently in our lost and found. We encourage you to remind your child to check for any missing belongings—coats, hoodies, water bottles, and more—before these items are cleared out. Thank you for your help in this effort!

Have a wonderful week, and I will look forward to seeing you around the View! 🐾

Principal Pluntke

Weekly Student Success Update

Halfway Through Journeys and Themes in Language Arts

We are halfway through Benchmark Unit 6 in Language Arts! Across grade levels, students have explored stories involving quests, challenges, and problem-solving.

Connect with your child’s learning at school with these fun questions and hands-on activities at home:

  • Question: Which character has been your favorite from this unit and why?
  • Activity: With your child, brainstorm a brand-new invention to solve a problem, like shoelaces that tie themselves or a clothes dryer that folds clothes. Ask your child to tell or write a story about someone using the invention.

At the end of the unit, your child will take their unit magazine home. The magazine includes an activity calendar with fun ways to help students build on what they’re learning at each grade level. You can also find information on how to support your child’s reading at home on the Benchmark Families website.

art 2nd

Second graders learned about "printmaking," which is a fancy word for saying "stamps".  The same picture can be produced over and over.  The students cut foam boards to make a collagraph printing plate and then used a brayer and ink to pull prints.
