Herndon Leaders Shine at Region 1 Celebration
Herndon Assistant Principals Jamila Alarcon, Sara James, and Christina Oh, along with Director of Student Services Krisna Taylor, enjoyed being recognized at the Region 1 Assistant Principals Appreciation Celebration on Thursday, April 9th. The Region 1 office created a welcoming atmosphere with food, fun, giveaways, and meaningful time to connect as a community. Assistant Superintendent Dr. Jameile Choice uplifted attendees with a powerful reminder that they are “the muse, the magic, the masterpiece,” affirming the impact of their leadership and dedication.

Month of the Military Child
April is the Month of the Military Child! Every year we take the opportunity to recognize military-connected youth for their service and contribution to our community. Fairfax County Public Schools is proud to have over 14,000 military-connected youth as a part of our student body. We appreciate the varied life experiences they bring to our school community, and recognize their strength and resilience. Calling all Juniors! You have chosen your classes for senior year! It’s time to go from advising to action! What does life after high school look like for you?!
On Monday, April 13th, and Wednesday, April 15th, during Flex, juniors will meet with school counselors to learn more about the options for life after high school. More details are available on the website.

Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at 6:30 - 8:00 pm at SLHS Auditorium
Join Herndon HS and South Lakes at the SLHS Auditorium for the Junior College Planning Night. Hear from the University of Virginia (UVA), James Madison University (JMU), Christopher Newport University (CNU), and High Point University, learn admissions basics and deadlines. Spanish and Arabic translation available. Additional details available on the Herndon HS website.

The Class of 2026 Parent Meeting will take place on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at 6:30 pm in the Lecture Hall. During this session, administrators will outline essential timelines for the Senior Exam Schedule, graduation rehearsals, and the final details for Graduation Day itself. Parents will also receive important updates on financial obligations, cap and gown distribution, and celebratory events such as the Senior Decision Day Brunch and the Legacy Walk.

Purple Up! Day
To show our support for all our military-connected families, we are inviting all Fairfax County students, families, school employees, and community members to “Purple Up!” on April 15 for military children. Why purple? Purple symbolizes all branches of the military as a combination of Army green, Marine Corps red, and Coast Guard, Navy, Air Force and Space Force blue.

Theravada New Year (Observance Day)
Thursday, April 16, is Theravada New Year. FCPS has designated this day as a religious and cultural observance day. There is school on these days, however specific events that cannot be made up will not be held on these observance days. See the complete school year calendar.

Community Conversations: Share Your Thoughts With Dr. Reid
As a listening leader, connecting with community members across our school division is critical to FCPS Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid. Her Community Conversations are opportunities for you to share your thoughts and ask questions. Events will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on:

April Statewide Election: No School for Students
There will be no school for students on Tuesday, April 21, for the Virginia statewide election. Student activities, athletic practices, and events may proceed as scheduled.
FCPS will offer lunch and a snack at no cost to children aged 18 and under on April 21 at participating schools. The meals must be eaten on site, and enrichment activities will be available. For more information, visit the FCPS Food and Nutrition Services webpage.
Explore Life After High School at Flash Forward Postsecondary Education and Employment Options Event
Fairfax County Public Schools’ Career and Transition Services will host Flash Forward: Postsecondary Education and Employment Options on Wednesday, April 22, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., in the cafeteria at Woodson High School.
The event is designed for students with disabilities pursuing a standard or advanced diploma and their families. It offers an introduction to postsecondary pathways, including education, employment, and community programs. Representatives from adult education, workforce programs, and community organizations will be available to share resources and answer questions.
Families are encouraged to register in advance to attend.

Final Call for Early Bird Pricing on Yearbooks!
Our Herndon HS yearbook staff has been working hard all year and just summitted our final pages to our publishing company! Yearbooks will arrive in May and online ordering is available until April 30. Yearbooks can be purchased for $65 at yearbookordercenter.com, using school code 8967, or through MySchoolBucks. Help FCPS Sustain Excellence: Make Your Voice Heard on the FY 2027 Budget
About 70% of the FCPS budget comes from the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. There are several upcoming opportunities to provide feedback to the county on its budget before final adoption in May. This includes public budget hearings (April 14-16) and an online survey. Learn how the FCPS budget helps us sustain our excellence.
Help proctor AP exams at HHS (May 4–15)! Shifts: 7:45 am–11:45 am & 11:45 am–3:45 pm. Duties: seating, ID checks, and supervision. Note: You cannot proctor an exam your own child is taking.
