Hive Happenings Newsletter

Hello Stenwood Families,

We hope everyone had a wonderful Spring Break! It was great to see everyone back and ready for the final stretch as we kicked off the 4th quarter this week. It is hard to believe we only have about two months of school left. This week, we also celebrate National Assistant Principals Week; we want to thank Mr. Case for all he does for our Hive!

To show our support for our military-connected families, we are inviting all Fairfax County students, families, school employees, and community members to “Purple Up!” on April 15th. Purple symbolizes all branches of the military, serving as a combination of Army green, Marine Corps red, and the blue used by the Coast Guard, Navy, Air Force, and Space Force.

Next week, we will be celebrating Bee Kind Week! We are dedicating the entire week to kindness leading up to the PTA’s Bee Kind Race next Sunday. Please see below for the specific themes for each day.

Additionally, a huge congratulations to Ms. Flynn on her big win on Wheel of Fortune! In case you missed it, she even spoke about our wonderful Stenwood community during the show.

Finally, we will start this coming Monday with a whole-school morning meeting featuring fun activities alongside our Hive Families. Please make sure your child arrives at school on time so they don't miss out! Also, looking ahead, next Friday is Spring/Class Picture Day.

Bee Kind Week

Bee Kind Week

Bee Kind Week at Stenwood April 13 to April 17 2026 Monday - Start your Kindness BINGO sheet for a chance to be randomly selected to attend a Kindness Party next week. Tuesday - Show kindness to yourself by doing something you love, your favorite calming activity or thinking kind thoughts to yourself. Wednesday - Show kindness to others by giving someone a compliment, including someone, helping someone or encouraging someone. Thursday - Show kindness to our community by picking up trash, recycling, writing a thank you card to a teacher or community helper or donating an item you no longer need. Friday - Wear a shirt with a positive message on it. Don't have one? Get a sticker in the morning to wear it all day.

New Crossing Guard Location

As many of you have noticed, we now have a crossing guard at Kiss N Ride.  We are so grateful as we have been requesting this for many years.  Please be mindful of the crossing guard and follow their directions.  They have also been provided a copy of the Kiss N Ride map and know that families are expected to only turn right into Kiss N Ride and right out of Kiss N Ride. Kiss N Ride closes at 8:38 as all students need to be in their seats at 8:40, please plan accordingly.

Optional: Class Placement Input for the

2026-27 School Year

If your child is returning to Stenwood next school year, we offer you the opportunity to share any comments you would like regarding class placements. If you know that your family will not be joining us for the 2026-27 school year, please reach out to Ms. Burke, mpburke@fcps.edu or 703-208-7600 to let us know.

Our staff will be working on tentative class groupings this spring, with classroom assignments finalized in late August. As we make these placements, we consider many factors including individual student information, teacher input, and social relationships. Every class will have a blend of children with diverse needs, personalities, and learning interests. Due to the many factors we must consider in creating classroom placements, including the reassignment of some teachers to a different grade level and the hiring of new teachers, requests for a specific teacher cannot be honored.

If you have information that you believe is pertinent to your child’s placement for next year, please complete the optional Class Placement Input Form by Friday, April 24th for it to be taken into consideration. There is no need to complete the form if you do not have any information you would like us to consider. Thank you.

Elementary Early Release Wednesday Update for April 22nd

Save the Date - This is Me Night

We are so excited for our second annual "This is Me" Night!

Date: April 23rd Time: 5:00 - 7:00pm

"This is Me" Night is all about celebrating our students and their individual achievements! Each student will showcase something they’ve worked on in school this year that they’re especially proud of—whether it’s a project, piece of art, writing, or another accomplishment. It will be a museum style format where families can walk around the building and visit classrooms to see work at all grade levels.  Student attendance the night of the event is optional.  Students will not be presenting their work, this will allow students to visit other classrooms with their families.

What do parents need to do? Nothing at all! Everything for the event will be prepared during the school day. Just come, enjoy, and celebrate your child’s achievements and the success of all our Stenwood Stingers!

How is this different from "This is Us" Night? While "This is Us" celebrates our diverse cultures and heritage, "This is Me" shines a light on the personal pride each student feels in their work and growth this school year.

We can’t wait to see you there and share these proud moments together!

We have aligned this event with the book fair, which will be open in the library at the same time.

The people of these nations are ethnically, politically, and religiously diverse but share a common cultural and linguistic heritage.

Orthodox Easter

A joyful Easter to our Orthodox Christian community! Many Orthodox Christians in the U.S. celebrate Easter according to the Council of Nicaea in 325 AD, which differs from the Western date we are most familiar with. Easter is a time to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus, whom Christians believe to be the Son of God

Educate Fairfax Student Bookmark Art Contest

Educate Fairfax, the 501(c)3 education foundation that partners with the community to support Fairfax County Public Schools students and educators, is launching a divisionwide Student Bookmark Art Contest during March. Artwork must be original, flat (no glitter or pop-ups), and include the student’s name, grade, and school on the back. Entries will be judged on creativity, connection to the theme, and overall effort. Four winners (K–2, 3–6, middle, and high) will each receive a $25 gift card, and winning designs will be printed and shared in schools and the community. This initiative supports FCPS Goal 3 by promoting literacy and student engagement.

Submissions may be mailed to Educate Fairfax (8270 Willow Oaks Corporate Drive, Fairfax, VA 22031), emailed to info@educatefairfax.org, or sent via pony mail. By submitting, students confirm FCPS enrollment and grant permission for printing and promotion (first name and grade only; parent/guardian signature required for winners).
