A Message from Principal Goldstein

Sam Goldstein

Dear Fairview Families,

We are excited to begin the 4th quarter of the school year. As we enter this final quarter, we are focused on finishing the school year strong. This is a meaningful time as our students continue to grow, reflect on their progress, and build on all they have accomplished.

Today we had the pleasure of hosting our Kindergarten Orientation. It was wonderful to meet our newest incoming Falcons and their families, and we look forward to welcoming them to our school community.

Next week, we are excited to celebrate our military-connected students as part of the Month of the Military Child. Please see the information below for our military-connected family breakfast hosted by our PTA.

Thank you for your continued support. Have a wonderful weekend.

Samantha Goldstein

Principal

Month of the Military Child

April is the Month of the Military Child! Every year we take the opportunity to recognize military-connected youth for their service and contribution to our community. Fairfax County Public Schools is proud to have over 14,000 military-connected youth as a part of our student body. We appreciate the varied life experiences they bring to our school community, and recognize their strength and resilience. Learn more about Month of the Military Child and FCPS resources for military families.

Fairview will be holding our annual Field Day on Friday, April 17th. Grades 4-6 will rotate through their Field Day stations from 9:30-11:30 and Grades K-3 will rotate from 1:45-3:45.

Students are encouraged to bring hats, sunscreen (already applied), and plastic water bottles clearly marked with their name. Please make sure your child dresses appropriately for outdoor activities.

In order for the events to be successful, we need parents to volunteer to help at stations and at a First Aid Station. We also need freezer pops, plastic cups, cases of water, and coolers. Please take a look at the signup genius and identify how you would like to help.

You can email klmacgregor@fcps.edu or fjpechin@fcps.edu with any questions.

Thanks for supporting this fun day of health and fitness!

Orientation for Fairview ES Full Time Advanced Academic Programs 2026-27

We will be sending invitations to families of students newly found eligible for Full Time AAP services to attend an information session about Fairview’s Full-Time Advanced Academic Program for the 2026–27 school year. The session will be held on April 15 from 5:00–6:00 p.m. in the POD and will provide an opportunity to learn more about the AAP curriculum and meet some of Fairview’s AAP teachers.

If you have any questions, please contact Alisa Pappas, ajpappas@fcps.edu, or your child’s classroom teacher.

AAP Screening for Subject Specific and Part-Time Services for 2026-27

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is committed to challenging all students through talent development and differentiated instruction to meet the needs of advanced learners.

In the spring, schools review data on all students to determine services for the start of the next school year.

  • Parents or guardians can initiate the screening process by submitting the AAP School-Based Services Referral Form to the Advanced Academic Resource Teacher, Alisa Pappas by Friday, April 17. (Translations available here.)
  • Parents or guardians who submit a referral will be notified by the local elementary school of their student’s eligibility status by early June.
  • For more information, you are invited to read the Spring AAP Newsletter or contact Alisa Pappas (ajpappas@fcps.edu)

April Statewide Election: No School for Students April 21

There will be no school for students on Tuesday, April 21, for the Virginia statewide election. Student activities, athletic practices, and events may proceed as scheduled.

FCPS will offer lunch and a snack at no cost to children aged 18 and under on Tuesday, April 21, at participating schools. The meals must be eaten on site, and enrichment activities will be available for the children. For more information, visit the FCPS Food and Nutrition Services webpage

April 29 Three-Hour Early Release CANCELED

Students will now have a traditional full day of instruction and be released at the regular dismissal time on April 22 and April 29, which were previously early release Wednesdays for elementary schools.

This adjustment allows our staff to still have dedicated time for planning, collaboration, and professional learning without reducing instructional time on other school days. Read Dr. Reid’s letter to elementary parents for more details.

Help FCPS Sustain Excellence: Make Your Voice Heard on the FY 2027 Budget

About 70% of the FCPS budget comes from the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. There are several upcoming opportunities to provide feedback to the county on its budget before final adoption in May. This includes public budget hearings (April 14-16) and an online survey. Learn how the FCPS budget helps us sustain our excellence.

Community Conversations: Share Your Thoughts With Dr. Reid

As a listening leader, connecting with community members across our school division is critical to FCPS Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid. Her Community Conversations are opportunities for you to share your thoughts and ask questions. Events will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on:

Click on a date to register to attend that event. Registration is not required, but it helps with planning, especially for child care and interpretation services. Events are open to all. Visit the superintendent’s engagement page for the most up-to-date information.

Journeys and Themes in Language Arts

Many classes have started Benchmark Unit 6 in Language Arts! Students have explored stories involving quests, challenges, and problem-solving.

Connect with your child’s learning at school with these fun questions and hands-on activities at home:

  • Question: Which character has been your favorite from this unit and why?
  • Activity: With your child, brainstorm a brand-new invention to solve a problem, like shoelaces that tie themselves or a clothes dryer that folds clothes. Ask your child to tell or write a story about someone using the invention.

At the end of the unit, your child will take their unit magazine home. The magazine includes an activity calendar with fun ways to help students build on what they’re learning at each grade level. You can also find information on how to support your child’s reading at home on the Benchmark Families website.
