Roar Into the Week: Kiss & Ride Update!

Our two amazing assistant principals, Ms. Wiley and Ms. Wayland, who help make our school such a special place!

Dear Bailey's Upper Families,

I want to take a moment to share my heartfelt gratitude for the incredible support you showed this week as we celebrated our amazing assistant principals, Ms. Wiley and Ms. Wayland.

These two leaders are truly the heart of our school. They love our students deeply, hold high expectations for both students and staff, and bring a sense of joy and positivity to each and every day. Their commitment to our community is unwavering, and quite honestly, I would not be able to do this work without them by my side.

Ms. Wiley and Ms. Wayland work tirelessly behind the scenes and alongside our staff to ensure that every child feels supported, challenged, and cared for. Our school is stronger, kinder, and more successful because of their leadership.

If you have a moment, I encourage you to share a note of appreciation with them. A few kind words go a long way, and they truly deserve to hear how much they mean to our community.

Thank you, as always, for your continued partnership and for helping us celebrate the incredible people who make our school so special.

With gratitude,

Bailey’s Upper Admin Team

Kiss & Ride Update

Graphic of a family in a car

We are making an important adjustment to our Kiss & Ride procedures to improve efficiency and safety for everyone.

Families will no longer be permitted to line up on the street outside of the school. Instead, cars may begin lining up at 8:20 AM and 3:20 PM. Our gates will open at 8:25 AM and 3:25 PM, and we will be using a new entry pattern designed to bring more cars onto school property more quickly.

We kindly ask that you take a few minutes to watch the videos linked below so you are familiar with the new process. As we begin, we appreciate your patience and partnership while we work through the transition together.

Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week

Teacher & Staff Week

We are gearing up to create an exciting Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week, and we can’t wait to celebrate our incredible staff! Our PTA has graciously offered to provide breakfast and lunch for two of the days, and we are planning to spoil our team the other three days.

We would love a little help from our community to make this extra special. We are collecting donations of snacks, seltzers, sodas, bags of candy (for a fun candy bar!), as well as napkins and plates. We also have a few gluten-free staff members, so if you have favorite gluten-free snacks, we would greatly appreciate those too.

If it’s easier, we would also gladly accept small gifts to raffle off or gift cards—these are always a big hit with our staff!

The more we have, the more we can share and enjoy together! You can send items in with your child or drop them off at the school.

Please reach out if you need ideas or have any questions. Thank you for helping us celebrate the amazing people who care for our students every day!

Celebrate the Month of the Military Child with Us! 💜

Purple Up Day

Bailey’s Upper Elementary School is excited to celebrate the Month of the Military Child this April. As part of this celebration, we will recognize Purple Up! Day on Wednesday, April 15—a special day that honors the strength, resilience, and sacrifices of military children. We encourage everyone to wear purple to show support for military-connected youth. Purple represents all branches of the military, symbolizing unity and appreciation. Be sure to check out this calendar of activities for more ways to celebrate throughout the month!

The dandelion is a powerful symbol of military children. Its seeds travel far and wide, much like the frequent moves military families experience. Yet wherever it lands, it takes root and grows strong. In the same way, military children continually adapt, build resilience, and thrive in new environments, showing strength and beauty in every place they call home.

🎖️Share Your Family’s Military Story💜

We would love to showcase all the amazing service members who have served—retired, veterans, or currently serving—and their families. Please email our Family Liaison, Jocelyn Sarwar at jnsarwar@fcps.edu or use our Google Form to send a photo and information about your family and service member. Feel free to include any service member you would like to honor, including grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, parents, or children. We will create a slideshow with all the photos, and classes will be able to view it on the morning news show. Please submit your photos by April 17th to be included.
