Third graders building strong literacy skills in small group!

Small School, BIG Heart! 💓

Dear Fairfax Villa Community,

As we begin to see the signs of spring all around us, there is a renewed sense of energy and excitement throughout our school. Students and staff alike are enjoying the warmer weather and the increased opportunities to spend time outdoors—whether that’s learning, playing, or simply connecting with one another.

With Spring Break officially starting, we want to wish all of our students and families a wonderful, restful, and safe break. We hope this time provides an opportunity to relax, recharge, and enjoy time together.

As you plan ahead, we’d also like to remind families of the following upcoming dates:

  • April 6: School closed for a Teacher Workday
  • April 10: School closed for a School Planning Day

In addition, we value your voice and partnership in helping us grow as a school community. We are currently seeking feedback on our leadership practices, as this input helps us reflect on areas of success and identify clear next steps for continued improvement. Families have the opportunity to complete the Principal Evaluation and Questionnaire through April 19th, and we encourage you to share your thoughts with us. You can find information below about how to access this feedback form.

Thank you, as always, for your continued partnership and support. It is truly a privilege to work alongside such a dedicated and caring community. If you have any questions or would like to connect, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Warmly,

Ms. Textoris & Mrs. Burke

📅Elementary Early Release Wednesday Update

Tuesday, April 21, is now a teacher workday and staff development day because of a recently announced special election that will impact all FCPS schools.

Students will now have a traditional full day of instruction and be released at the regular dismissal time on April 22 and April 29, which were previously early release Wednesdays for elementary schools.

This adjustment allows our staff to still have dedicated time for planning, collaboration, and professional learning without reducing instructional time on other school days.Read Dr. Reid’s letter to elementary parents for more details.

🚌We Want Your Feedback! Principal Evaluation Parent/Guardian Questionnaire

On Monday, April 6, parents and guardians of Fairfax Villa will receive an email with a link to the FCPS Principal Evaluation Parent/Guardian Feedback Form. This questionnaire is part of the Performance Evaluation Program and provides an opportunity to share anonymous feedback about our school’s leadership and environment.

Topics covered in the survey include:

✅ Instructional leadership

✅ School climate

✅ Management (human resources and organizational)

✅ Communication and community relations

✅ Culturally responsive and equitable leadership

✅ Professionalism

The questionnaire will be open April 6 - April 19 and will be collected online. When you receive the email from noreply@fcps.edu, please take a few minutes to complete it.

Your input is valuable and helps shape the future of our school. Thank you for your time and feedback!

📚Literacy Bag Check-Outs Are Open!

WHAT: Thanks to a grant from Educate Fairfax, we are able to begin a program for all of our families to check out Family Literacy Activity Bags from the Villa Library! The bags are designed for students of ALL AGES (including the adults) so that the entire family can enjoy reading together.

WHY:Reading at-home with your children is important to their reading and writing development. Children hear fluent reading, can discuss their understanding, and learn new vocabulary from reading a book with an adult.

HOW: Here is the link to the Check-out form and the required Permission form (you can complete them electronically).

Please submit a request via the link each week you would like a bag to go home on Thursday.   We will reach out to let you know a bag is being checked out to you during the week.

✏️Attendance “Tip of the Week”

At Fairfax Villa, we have a school improvement goal around improving our attendance rate. We would like to see our absenteeism rate decrease this year from 12% to 9%.

Here is our Attendance “Tip of the Week!”

  • Create Back-up Plans: Have a backup plan for transportation or childcare to ensure your child gets to school, even if plans change.
