Principal’s Message to Families
Dear Families,
This week our staff surprised our students with an “Underground Staff Superhero Spirit Week” with our staff dressing up like their students, using anything but a cup, ‘stashe day, and Superhero/Hero Day. Our students had fun figuring out the theme of the day, and several students joined the theme by using their creativity. Our staff and students shared many laughs and deepened connections while learning more about each other.
Congratulations to Lily Walters who did an amazing job representing Ravensworth ES at the FCPS Scripps Spelling Bee this past Saturday at Lake Braddock Secondary School. We are so proud of you!
Our 5th Graders successfully completed the first part of their Reading SOL – the IRW. Great job to all our students and staff members!
We want to wish all our families and students a safe and restful Spring Break. If you have any pictures of your adventures, you would be willing to share, we would love to add to our Student Spotlight Bulletin Board in the school foyer.
Looking forward to a fantastic fourth quarter.
Warmly,
Shannon Mueck
Principal

Community Conversations: Share Your Thoughts With Dr. Reid
Connecting with community members across Fairfax County is critical to Dr. Reid. Her Community Conversations are opportunities for you to share your thoughts and ask questions. Events will be held this spring from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.on:
Click on a date to register to attend that event. Registration is not required, but it helps with planning, especially for child care and interpretation services.
Events are open to all. Visit the superintendent’s engagement webpage for the most up-to-date information
Elementary Early Release Wednesday Update for April
Tuesday, April 21, is now a teacher workday and staff development day because of a recently announced special election that will impact all FCPS schools.
Students will have a traditional full day of instruction and be released at the regular dismissal time on April 22 and April 29, which were previously early release Wednesdays for elementary schools.
This adjustment allows our staff to still have dedicated time for planning, collaboration, and professional learning without reducing instructional time on other school days. Read Dr. Reid’s letter to elementary parents for more details.

Phones Off, Learning On
FCPS’ cell phone policy helps students focus, learn, and engage. When students put their phones away, they have more face-to-face interactions with their peers and teachers and more opportunities to develop resilience and problem-solving skills. Please remind your child that:
-
Cell phones and personal devices (earbuds, headsets, other items connected to the internet) must be off and away for the entire school day (bell to bell).
-
Smart watches that serve a dual purpose may be worn, but the phone features (texting, Internet viewing, and calls) are to be off when phone use is prohibited.
If you need to contact your child during the school day, please call our front office at [phone number]. Visit our cell phone policy webpage for more information and answers to frequently asked questions.
📚 Finishing Up Our Exploration of Technology and Society in Language Arts 📚
Students are finishing Benchmark Unit 5 in Language Arts! Over the last several weeks, our students have learned, read, and written about why and how we use technology.
Connect with your child’s learning at school with these fun questions and hands-on activities at home:
- Question: What do you think life would be like if we didn’t have cell phones or the internet?
- Activity: Ask your child to predict the next big invention in transportation, communication, or entertainment. Have them sketch it, name it, and explain how it works.
At the end of the unit, your child will take their unit magazine home. The magazine includes an activity calendar with fun ways to help students build on what they’re learning at each grade level. You can also find information on how to support your child’s reading at home on the Benchmark Families website.
Special Education Family Conference: Registration Open, Volunteers Needed
The 2026 Special Education Family Conference, Stronger Together: Connecting Families and Schools, will take place on Saturday, April 18, at Marshall High School. During this no-cost, in-person event, families will have the opportunity to hear a keynote address from internationally renowned educator and advocate, Dr. Shelley Moore, connect to resources and other families, and participate in afternoon sessions.
FCPS families are invited to register to attend this year’s conference. Childcare, accommodations, and language interpretation are available.
Families are also invited to register to serve as an event volunteer by Thursday, March 19. Volunteer hours will be awarded to student volunteers.
