Military Family Field Day April 18, 2026
Fairfax County Public Schools is excited to celebrate our military-connected children and families with a fun-filled Field Day! As we recognize April as the Month of the Military Child, we invite your school’s clubs, PTA, or office/organization to sponsor an activity for this event! You may also sign up to provide a food/beverage item for purchase as a fundraiser for your organization.
Military Family Field Day will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026, from noon to 2 p.m. at Annandale High School’s football stadium (4700 Medford Dr, Annandale, VA 22003). Set up for the event will begin at 11 a.m., with tear down immediately following the event.
As the sponsor of an activity or food/beverage item, your organization is responsible for the materials, set up, tear down, volunteers, and supervision of your activity during the event.
Action Required
Register to sponsor an activity or provide a food/beverage item for purchase.
Do your students have something good to read over Spring break? If not, send them to the Irving MS Library tomorrow to borrow something. We just received the newest volumes of many favorite books: Coach, the fifth book in Jason Reynolds’ Track Series; The Wild Robot Protects follow-up to Peter Brown’s Wild Robot series, and Katherine Applegate’s The One and Only Ruby, to continue the story begun in her beloved One and Only Ivan book. See if you can incorporate a family daily-reading time into this break from school.
Ebooks and audiobooks are also always available for students to access with their FCPS Google credentials by logging into Mackinvia.com. Any student who is interested can stop by the library to ask if they want help accessing online resources.
We’d love to hear what books your students have read or listened to over the break!

Provide the County Government With Feedback on its Budget
About 70% of the FCPS budget comes from the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. The Board of Supervisors is reviewing the Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 Advertised Budget and considering possible adjustments before adoption in May. Opportunities to provide feedback to the county include Budget Town Hall Meetings airing on Channel 16 on Tuesday, April 7, at 7 p.m., (Springfield District) and Friday, April 10, at 6 p.m., (Franconia District).
You can also provide your input during the county’s Budget public hearings on Tuesday, April 14, at 4 p.m., and Wednesday, April 15, and Thursday, April 16, at 3 p.m. at the Government Center Board Auditorium. Register in advance to speak.
Visit the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors website to learn more about the county’s FY 2027 Budget.
Educate Fairfax Student Bookmark Art Contest – “Today’s Reader, Tomorrow’s Leader”
Educate Fairfax, the 501(c)3 education foundation that partners with the community to support Fairfax County Public Schools students and educators, is launching a divisionwide Student Bookmark Art Contest during March. FCPS students in grades K–12 are invited to design a 2” x 7” bookmark celebrating the power of learning and creativity under the theme “Today’s Reader, Tomorrow’s Leader.”
Artwork must be original, flat (no glitter or pop-ups), and include the student’s name, grade, and school on the back. Entries will be judged on creativity, connection to the theme, and overall effort. Four winners (K–2, 3–6, middle, and high) will each receive a $25 gift card, and winning designs will be printed and shared in schools and the community. This initiative supports FCPS Goal 3 by promoting literacy and student engagement.
Submissions may be mailed to Educate Fairfax (8270 Willow Oaks Corporate Drive, Fairfax, VA 22031), emailed to info@educatefairfax.org, or sent via pony mail. By submitting, students confirm FCPS enrollment and grant permission for printing and promotion (first name and grade only; parent/guardian signature required for winners).

FCPS Commitment to Weather Safety
At FCPS, the safety of our students, staff, and visitors is our highest priority — no matter the season. In extreme cold, we monitor National Weather Service (NWS) guidance, adjust outdoor activities, and ensure our buildings are warm and secure. In extreme heat, we modify or cancel outdoor activities, use on-site measurements to guide athletic decisions, and promote hydration and cooling breaks.
FCPS has plans in place to provide guidance during severe weather, including storms, flooding, and tornadoes. Decisions are informed by industry best practices, weather alerts, and a commitment to keeping our school community safe and healthy year-round. Read more about weather safety, including the differences between an advisory, watch, and warning.

Camp Details:
Spartan Volleyball Camp is designed and has a session for athletes of all skill levels who are eager to enhance their game in a challenging and supportive environment. Camp sessions are structured by age and skill level to ensure every player receives personalized instruction and the best opportunity for growth.
Campers will have the unique opportunity to train with experienced high school coaches from across the country, as well as current college athletes. Campers in Session A and B will also get to work with the high school athletes from the Virginia State Champions team! Sessions will include individual skill development, group instruction, and competitive tournament play, all designed to help players refine their technique, build confidence, and elevate their overall performance.
Session C is ONLY for advanced players. Unfortunately, we do not have a session for rising 10th-12th graders who are new to volleyball or who only have freshmen team level experience and/or rec volleyball experience. Athletes attending Session C must have played on their high school Varsity or JV team or are currently playing on a competitive club team. If you are signing up for Session C, the expectation is that you are playing volleyball at or close to the Varsity level. Most rising 9th graders should be attending session B.
