Dear Hayfield Community -
As we head into spring break, we wish all of our students and families a safe, relaxing, and enjoyable time. We hope this break provides an opportunity to recharge and spend time with loved ones. When we return, we look forward to a strong start to the fourth quarter as we finish the school year focused and ready to learn. As we continue to emphasize the importance of strong attendance habits, please ensure that your student arrives on time and is in class by 8:00 a.m. each morning. Consistent, full-day attendance plays a key role in student success and helps set a positive tone for the day. We appreciate your support in helping your student start each day ready to learn.

🗨️DiBari's Dispatch
Hey Hawk Family–
I hope that you had a great week; we certainly did here! With hosting a phenomenal career day for our AVID students, a wonderful percussion concert, and spring sports kicking into high gear, it’s been a great time to be a Hawk!
We have finished off the 3rd quarter, and are in the home stretch of the year. While we are getting ready to head into a break, I do want to remind everybody to not let up at the finish line. There is still a lot to learn and do here over the next few months, both in the classroom and out. Events like our Spring Musical, International Night, and a variety of sports are on the horizon, so speak with your students about making sure they stay invested in Hawk Life even as we are closing out the year.Â
I wish everybody a wonderful and relaxing Spring Break, filled with things that bring your family joy! So that you know, school offices will be closed next week (March 30 - April 3), and will reopen on Monday, April 6th. Have a fantastic week…Go Hawks!

📢Hawk Highlights
Members of the National Honor Society had a blast volunteering at the St. Jude’s Research Hospital for Children’s Rock and Roll Marathon last Saturday, March 21st in Washington, DC. 36 students and several parents participated in this semi-annual NHS service project by supervising the runner corrals at the starting line or handing out snacks and medals to the runners at the finish line. We can’t wait to participate again next year!
Word of the Week
This week’s word of the week champ is Grace Wright! She used the word equivalent in the following sentence:Â
“1000 lbs of feathers is equivalent to 1000 lbs of bricks.”Â
Well done, Grace!Â

Coach Yao brings an abundance of experience, both in overall coaching as well as here at Hayfield. He has 13 years of coaching in Northern Virginia, including three seasons at Hayfield where he has quickly become a pillar within the community, dedicated to building a culture of accountability, teamwork, and growth.
Additionally, Coach Yao was named Assistant Coach of the Year by the Northern Virginia Football Hall of Fame—an honor that reflects not only his football knowledge, but also the respect he has earned as a mentor and leader.
With an MBA from American University, Coach Yao brings a thoughtful, strategic approach focused on leadership development, character, and helping student-athletes reach their full potential both on the field and in all areas of life.

Help Our Hawks Soar Higher! 🦅
Our student-athletes and coaches are working hard to represent Hayfield with pride. To ensure they have the resources they need to succeed, the Hayfield Athletic Boosters have identified two primary ways for families, alumni, and local businesses to help:
-
Purchase Needed Equipment (Amazon Wishlist) We’ve curated a list of specific items—ranging from training gear to sideline essentials—that will go directly into the hands of our athletes. Items purchased here ship directly to the school. 👉 Browse the Amazon Wishlist
-
Make a Financial Contribution (MySchoolBucks) If you prefer to make a direct monetary donation, you can do so securely through our official MySchoolBucks portal. These funds allow the Boosters to respond to immediate program needs, repairs, and enhancements as they arise. 👉 Donate Funds via MySchoolBucks
Whether you donate an item or provide financial support, your generosity makes a direct impact on the student-athlete experience at Hayfield.
Thank you for your continued support! Go Hawks!
🏫From FCPS
FCPS Commitment to Weather Safety
At FCPS, the safety of our students, staff, and visitors is our highest priority — no matter the season. In extreme cold, we monitor National Weather Service (NWS) guidance, adjust outdoor activities, and ensure our buildings are warm and secure. In extreme heat, we modify or cancel outdoor activities, use on-site measurements to guide athletic decisions, and promote hydration and cooling breaks.Â
FCPS has plans in place to provide guidance during severe weather, including storms, flooding, and tornadoes. Decisions are informed by industry best practices, weather alerts, and a commitment to keeping our school community safe and healthy year-round. Read more about weather safety, including the differences between an advisory, watch, and warning.
Provide the County Government With Feedback on Its Budget
About 70% of the FCPS budget comes from the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. The Board of Supervisors is reviewing the Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 Advertised Budget and considering possible adjustments before adoption in May. Opportunities to provide feedback to the county include Budget Town Hall Meetings airing on Channel 16 on Tuesday, April 7, at 7 p.m., (Springfield District) and Friday, April 10, at 6 p.m., (Franconia District).
You can also provide your input during the county’s Budget public hearings on Tuesday, April 14, at 4 p.m., and Wednesday, April 15, and Thursday, April 16, at 3 p.m. at the Government Center Board Auditorium. Register in advance to speak.Â
Visit the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors website to learn more about the county’s FY 2027 Budget.
Community Conversations: Share Your Thoughts With Dr. Reid
As a listening leader, connecting with community members across our school division is critical to FCPS Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid. Her Community Conversations are opportunities for you to share your thoughts and ask questions. Events will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on:Â
Click on a date to register to attend that event. Registration is not required, but it helps with planning, especially for child care and interpretation services. Events are open to all. Visit the superintendent’s engagement page for the most up-to-date information.
