McLean High School Teams Earn Top Spots at Regional KidWind Competition

On Tuesday March 17th team A Squared won 1st Place and team Green Guardians won 3rd Place at the KidWind Northern Virginia Regional Competition earning both teams a spot at the State Competition in May. The KidWind Challenge is a hands-on student wind turbine and solar device design competition that engages students in STEM through the lens of clean energy. Student teams design and construct small wind turbines that they test in a wind tunnel, solar devices that they test under a light array, and meet with a panel of judges to present their design process and demonstrate their contextual knowledge of clean energy. McLean HS students this year chose the Solar Smart Home design Competition.

Course Selection Update - Parent Acknowledgement Feature

As the Course Selection period draws to a close, we want to ensure all families feel confident about their child's educational path. A detailed email was sent to students and enrolling parents last week listing the courses students have requested for the 2026-27 school year. We received some requests by students and parents to alter course selections and as such, encourage you to re-review the course requests for next year.

SIS ParentVUE now allows parents and guardians to review and acknowledge their student's course requests for the 2026-27 school year. This acknowledgement window is open from March 16-March 27, 2026. Please note that this information is not a schedule, it is a list of courses only. Schedules will be finalized and released in August before school starts.

Instructions to view and acknowledge course requests:

  • Log into your ParentVUE account.
  • Navigate to the Course Request module.
  • Review your student’s course request list for next school year.
  • Navigate to the Student Info module.
  • Click Edit Information.
  • Locate the Course Request Acknowledgment field.
  • Update the acknowledgment field to Yes to confirm review.
  • Click Save Changes.

Please contact your student's counselor or Jenna Jablonski (jmjablonski@fcps.edu), Director of Student Services, with any questions.
