Roadrunner Rundown

March 23, 2026

Principal's Message

Dear Marshall Road Families,

The Madison Pyramid is looking forward to celebrating “Our Shared Home” by joining together for our Day of Service on Wednesday, April 15. As we shared last month, this day moves us to learn outside the walls of the classroom and helps our students grow as Ethical and Global Citizens. Hands-on-service will allow students to see that they have the power to strengthen their community through intentional, compassionate action. MRES students and staff will participate through different projects at each grade level. Later this week, we will send out “Wish Lists” for each project for materials that will help us to bring these acts of service to life.  After Spring Break, we will share the Day of Service schedule and if it fits into your day to join your child you will be welcomed to do so. We look forward to partnering with you to make this day a success.

There will be no school on the following days:

  • March 30-April 3 - Spring Break
  • April 6 - Teacher Workday
  • April 10 - School Planning Day

Have a great week.

Matthew Chapman, Toni Nauflett, and Kelly Willis

Follow the Rabbit with Us!

Our 5th and 6th grade Roadrunners are excited to present this year’s spring production, Alice in Wonderland! Students have been working hard in every role—on stage, behind the scenes, and as part of the art crew—to bring this magical story to life.

Performance Dates: April 27 & April 28 / Time: 7:00 PM

Family and friends are warmly invited to attend—no tickets are required.

This production offers students a meaningful opportunity to grow beyond the classroom. Through their participation, they develop skills in performance, collaboration, and creative design. Across all roles, students build confidence, teamwork, creativity, leadership, time management, and problem-solving skills—experiences that extend far beyond the stage.

We are incredibly proud of our Roadrunners and look forward to sharing this special performance with our community.

Spring Volunteers Needed!

As we head into our busy spring season, we are looking for a few extra hands to help pull off some of our favorite MRES traditions. If you are available to help, we would love your support for:

Staff Spotlight

Staff Spotlight

Hooray for Ms. Flesch, one of our amazing ESOL teachers, who snagged the PTA Priority Parking Spot this week! Ms. Flesh has been at Marshall Road for 21 years and has spent time as a 2nd grade teacher, taught a 2nd/3rd grade combination class, and 4th grade. Now she is happily teaching all grade levels as an ML/ESOL teacher and she loves the variety her job presents. She said, “It is wonderful to work with so many different aged students with varied backgrounds, languages, and experiences, and all the while fostering their confidence with learning English and growing their love of learning. MRES is a very special place, and I learn so much from my students and colleagues each and every day!”

In her spare time, Ms. Flesch loves to be outside! She loves a walk with her boys or driving in her jeep with the fresh air blowing. She also loves the beach or anywhere she can swim and read a great book. Fun fact: Ms. Flesch grew up as a swimmer, soccer player, and ballet dancer and eventually found her love of tennis. She even played college tennis!

Educate Fairfax Student Bookmark Art Contest – “Today’s Reader, Tomorrow’s Leader”

Educate Fairfax, the 501(c)3 education foundation that partners with the community to support FCPS students and educators, is launching a division-wide Student Bookmark Art Contest during March. Students in grades K–12 are invited to design a 2” x 7” bookmark celebrating the power of learning and creativity under the theme “Today’s Reader, Tomorrow’s Leader.”

Artwork must be original, flat (no glitter or pop-ups), and include the student’s name, grade, and school on the back. Entries will be judged on creativity, connection to the theme, and overall effort. Four winners (K–2, 3–6, middle, and high) will each receive a $25 gift card, and winning designs will be printed and shared in schools and the community. This initiative supports FCPS Goal 3 by promoting literacy and student engagement.

Submissions may be mailed to Educate Fairfax (8270 Willow Oaks Corporate Drive, Fairfax, VA 22031), emailed to info@educatefairfax.org, or sent via pony mail by April 17. By submitting, students confirm FCPS enrollment and grant permission for printing and promotion (first name and grade only; parent/guardian signature required for winners).
