Dear Dranesville Families:
It’s hard to believe we are already through the second week of our last quarter. The first Dranesville Class of 2026 graduations will happen 6 weeks from today! I visited several Dranesville schools this week and enjoyed meeting with students, staff, and families. Everyone is full of energy and enthusiasm.
I am excited to welcome back to FCPS Ms. Meredith Norris as Westfield HS's new principal. She is a former Region 5 student and native, and she served 6 years as Westfield HS's Assistant Principal, 2016 to 2020. I look forward to working with her! We will have several more new principals across Dranesville over the next several weeks.
The FY27 Budget process is heading toward completion. There remains a $40 million budget gap between the Fairfax County transfer and the FCPS FY27 Advertised Budget. I have heard from families, students, and community members around staffing, after school middle school programming, and safety. Add your priority to the budget discussion through advocacy means, shared below. The FCPS Budget Public Hearing is May 12th.
I thank the many families, current students, and alumni for sharing their frustrations, suggestions, and concerns on the student calendar, the development of an Innovation in Instructional Technology Policy, the delay of smart phones use by students, and the limitation of student screen time in the classroom. The Governance Committee, where I serve with four other Board members, is working on both the Innovation in Instructional Technology Policy and the calendar policy, with more details on this work below. For the school calendar, my priority is creating more 5-day weeks to maintain student momentum. By creating strong partnerships between schools, students, families and communities, innovation and change create opportunities for our students.
Hope you are enjoying the spring weather,
Robyn
