Superintendent Reid with 5thn grade students at HMES

🐝A Message from Principal Crews

Dear Hollin Meadows Families,

We were honored to welcome FCPS Superintendent Dr. Reid to Hollin Meadows this past week! She spent time visiting several classrooms and engaging with our amazing Hornets.

Dr. Reid shared that she felt a warm, welcoming atmosphere throughout our school and could clearly see that our students are deeply loved and cared for each day.

I am so proud of our students, staff, and community for making Hollin Meadows such a special place to learn and grow! 🐝💛

Sincerely,

Jasibi Crews, Principal

📖HMES Reading Month Continues!📖

We will finalize celebrating March Reading Month this week with our annual Read About and Around the World Week.  Students are encouraged to read a book about another country, or one that takes place in another country.

Our Multicultural Parade is on Thursday, March 26, 2026.  This event will begin at approximately 2:20 pm and will include all students parading in the halls of the school.  Students and staff may wear traditional clothing and/or carry a flag or another object that represents their native and/or ancestral homeland.

Due to the weather dismissal on Monday, March 16th, we had to postpone our author visit to Thursday, April 23rd.  Author Sue Fliess will be sharing with all K-6 students her books, her writing process, and the importance of reading. However, we were able to continue with our Masked Readers on the morning news.  The students did a wonderful job listening and observing for clues as to who the Masked Reader was!

🕛Early Release on Wednesday, March 25

Wednesday, March 25th is our next early release Wednesday. Please let us know if your child’s dismissal plan will be different from our first early release Wednesday. As previously stated, your selection from the first early release date will be the selection we use for every early release date in the 2025-2026 school year.

Any changes must be made by Tuesday, March 24th. If you choose to change your child’s transportation the day of, you will need to come in person to make the change and pick your child from the front office. Please communicate any changes with the classroom teacher.

Phones Off, Learning On

FCPS’ cell phone policy helps students focus, learn, and engage. When students put their phones away, they have more face-to-face interactions with their peers and teachers and more opportunities to develop resilience and problem-solving skills. Please remind your child that:

  • Cell phones and personal devices (earbuds, headsets, other items connected to the internet) must be off and away for the entire school day (bell to bell).
  • Smart watches that serve a dual purpose may be worn, but the phone features (texting, Internet viewing, and calls) are to be off when phone use is prohibited.

If you need to contact your child during the school day, please call our front office at 703-718-8300. Visit our cell phone policy webpage for more information and answers to frequently asked questions.
