Dear Woodley Hills Family,

As we approach the final stretch before spring break, I want to express my appreciation for the incredible energy and dedication our students have shown throughout this third quarter.

This coming week is filled with important events as we prepare for a well-deserved rest, starting with a three-hour early release on Wednesday, March 25. We are also thrilled to welcome our newest little beavers to the building for kindergarten orientation from 2:00 to 3:00 that afternoon, giving our incoming families a chance to explore their new home.

Our commitment to supporting you continues on Thursday, March 26, with a family resource fair from 5:00 to 6:00, a wonderful opportunity to connect with our school Social Worker and Family Liaison, explore community resources, and take home new and gently used clothing items and non-perishable food bags.

We will conclude the week and the quarter on Friday, March 27, with a two-hour early release to mark the start of our holiday break. I hope this upcoming time away provides your family with plenty of relaxation and joy, and I look forward to seeing everyone refreshed and ready for the final quarter of the school year.

Dr. LaChelle R. Williams, Principal

We recognize that parents are their children’s first teachers. Resources on the School Readiness and Transition to Kindergarten webpage provide parents with ways to support their children to help ensure a smooth transition to kindergarten.

There’s also an easy-to-follow five-step process outlined for registering your child for kindergarten. Register your child today! Contact our registrar Sandra Guzman, at 703-799-2001, or by e-mail at sguzman@fcps.edu with any questions or to initiate enrollment.

Social Emotional Spotlight

As shared in the last two weeks, The Virginia Department of Education defines social emotional learning as:

“The process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions.”

SEL is made up of five areas of knowledge and skill: self-awareness, self-management, responsible decision making, relationship skills and social awareness.

This week the focus is on Relationship Skills.  Relationship Skills are the skills needed to build positive relationships with others.  Show your student positive Relationship Skills at home by helping someone in need, checking in with someone to let them know you care, or talking about how you handled a conflict or disagreement.
