April is the Month of the Military Child, and at Wakefield Forest, we are proud to celebrate the incredible strength, resilience, and spirit of our military-connected students.
Join us on Purple Up Day, April 15th, by wearing purple to show your support and appreciation. As a Purple Star School, this day is especially meaningful to our community. It is a chance for all of us to stand together and recognize the sacrifices our military families make, especially the children who walk our halls each day.
Let’s turn Wakefield Forest purple and show our students just how much they are seen, valued, and celebrated!

Dr. Shelley Moore will facilitate our keynote address titled The Evolution of Inclusion. In this session, we will look at how the goals of inclusion have continued to shift and evolve, as we learn more about diversity and identity. Participants will reflect on their own contexts and consider next steps for advocacy and action.
Visit the FCPS 2026 Special Education Family Conference webpage to review the list of breakout session offerings and the vendor hall list.
Confirm your attendance for this year’s conference by completing the 2026 Special Education Family Conference Registration Form.
FCPS staff and families are also invited to serve as an event volunteers. Sign up to serve as a volunteer via the 2026 Special Education Family Conference Volunteer Interest Form by Thursday, March 19. We will need volunteers for a variety of needs. MyPDE credit will be awarded to staff volunteers and staff attendees. Volunteer hours will also be awarded to student volunteers.
Devices such as smart watches connected to the internet and Meta (or other smart) glasses fall under the same category as other internet-connected personal devices and are not permitted for use during the instructional day.
These expectations are outlined in the Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R) regarding personal electronic devices.
These devices have the capability to access the internet, record, and communicate, which presents the same concerns that led to the current restrictions on other personal electronic devices.
Consistent implementation across classrooms and schools is important for maintaining clarity for students and families.
Thank you for supporting a focused learning environment for our students.

Educate Fairfax, the 501(c)3 education foundation that partners with the community to support Fairfax County Public Schools students and educators, is launching a divisionwide Student Bookmark Art Contest during March. FCPS students in grades K–12 are invited to design a 2” x 7” bookmark celebrating the power of learning and creativity under the theme “Today’s Reader, Tomorrow’s Leader.”
Artwork must be original, flat (no glitter or pop-ups), and include the student’s name, grade, and school on the back. Entries will be judged on creativity, connection to the theme, and overall effort. Four winners (K–2, 3–6, middle, and high) will each receive a $25 gift card, and winning designs will be printed and shared in schools and the community. This initiative supports FCPS Goal 3 by promoting literacy and student engagement.
Submissions may be mailed to Educate Fairfax (8270 Willow Oaks Corporate Drive, Fairfax, VA 22031), emailed to info@educatefairfax.org, or sent via pony mail. By submitting, students confirm FCPS enrollment and grant permission for printing and promotion (first name and grade only; parent/guardian signature required for winners).
