This Friday, March 20th is a holiday and there will be no school.

Have a great week.

Staff Spotlight

Hooray for Ms. Chakmakian, one of our fabulous First Grade teachers! Ms. Chakmakian has taught for 25 years and has taught both first and second grades at Marshall Road. She loves working with the MRES staff and community! Ms. Chakmakian loves spending time with her two children and her wonderful husband. Her daughter is a 5th grade Roadrunner! She also loves to garden. Fun fact: Ms. Chakmakian grew up a Mets fan and even played softball! Her favorite position was shortstop.

Special Education Family Conference: Registration Open, Volunteers Needed

The 2026 Special Education Family Conference, Stronger Together: Connecting Families and Schools, will take place on Saturday, April 18, at Marshall High School. During this no-cost, in-person event, families will have the opportunity to hear a keynote address from internationally renowned educator and advocate, Dr. Shelley Moore, connect to resources and other families, and participate in afternoon sessions. FCPS families are invited to register to attend this year’s conference. Childcare, accommodations, and language interpretation are available. Families are also invited to register to serve as an event volunteer by Thursday, March 19. Volunteer hours will be awarded to student volunteers.

Family Engagement Survey

FCPS will administer our third Family Engagement Survey from March 9- 23. The Office of Research, Planning and Evaluation will send email invitations with a survey link to all adults attached to each student in SIS. Parents/caregivers can also take the survey at this link or access the survey from FCPS’ website. By participating in the Family Engagement Survey, parents/guardians are making their voices heard on important topics impacting their students’ success. With family input, the school division will be better suited to develop practices that incorporate their ideas and help focus everyone on their role in improving student outcomes. When schools build strong partnerships with families, respond to their concerns, and honor their contributions, students can experience a range of benefits, including improved school readiness, higher student achievement, better social skills and behavior, and increased likelihood of high school graduation.

STEAM Symposium

Oakton High School STEAM Symposium

Oakton Cougar Robotics would like to invite you to their student to Oakton High School’s STEAM Symposium taking place on Friday, April 10, 5:30-7:30 pm! This event will be set up in a rotational manner so students may come and go as they please. Students will be able to explore the STEAM clubs of Oakton HS and other FCPS High Schools through various booths and activities proctored by each of the clubs. Through this symposium, we hope this event will foster STEAM interest and learning in your students and get them excited about all the opportunities available in the near future.
