The Wildcat Weekly - March 15, 2026

Centreville Students, Families, and Community,

Last week was a truly special one in the Wildcat Nation, filled with moments that reminded us what makes Centreville High School such an extraordinary community. Our Inclusion Revolution Spirit Week brought our school together in powerful ways, highlighted by a school-wide pep rally in support of our Unified Basketball Team. The excitement and pride carried into Thursday evening’s FanQuest event, where our Unified Athletes were joined by teams from Chantilly, Robinson, and Westfield. It was incredible to see our students rally around our athletes and celebrate the spirit of inclusion and teamwork.

Our week concluded with another remarkable celebration as the South Asian Student Association hosted International Night. The evening showcased beautiful cultural attire, vibrant performances, and the rich traditions that make up our diverse community. International Night continues to be one of the most spectacular events of the year, and together with our Inclusion Revolution activities, it demonstrates how powerful it is when our community comes together to celebrate acceptance, belonging, and pride in who we are.

While these events highlight the very best of Centreville, it is important that the values they represent do not end when the week concludes. Acceptance, tolerance, and belonging are ideals we must cultivate continuously within our community. Over the last couple of months, I have been made aware of several instances in which students have spread misinformation or spoken derogatorily about one another. This is not the culture we strive to build at Centreville High School, nor is it behavior we will accept in our community.

As we have seen in our country and across the world, acts of hate and division only weaken our communities. Instead, I ask our students to be leaders in spreading kindness, belonging, acceptance, and understanding. Before speaking about another student, take a moment to consider how it would feel if those same words were said about you, about a friend, a sibling, or someone you care about. I also ask our families to partner with us by having conversations at home about the impact our words and actions have on others.

One of our continued areas of focus as a school is cultivating a positive school climate. This means building strong relationships with one another, offering support when it is needed, and consistently demonstrating kindness and respect in our daily interactions. I am confident that by working together we can ensure that the spirit of Inclusion Revolution Week is not limited to one week, but instead becomes a lasting part of who we are every day in the Wildcat Nation.

Wildcat Band Named Program of Honor for 2025-2026: We are proud to share some exciting news about the outstanding accomplishments of our Centreville High School Wildcat Band! The program has once again been recognized as a Program of Honor by the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors’ Association for the 2025–2026 school year. Important Information from FCPS

April Statewide Election: No School for Students: There will be no school for students on Tuesday, April 21, for the Virginia statewide election. Student activities, athletic practices, and events may proceed as scheduled. Fairfax County Public Schools will still exceed the required number of instructional hours for students, as set by the Virginia Department of Education.

County Seeking Budget Input: About 70% of the FCPS budget comes from the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. They are currently reviewing the county’s 2027 Fiscal Year Advertised Budget and are considering possible adjustments before the final county budget is adopted in May. Provide the county with feedback on how you would like your tax dollars spent by completing this survey.

Family Engagement Survey to Open March 9: FCPS is administering our Family Engagement Survey, which will be open from Monday, March 9, to Monday, March 23. Your feedback is critical in helping us to better recognize, understand, respect, and address family strengths and needs in our schools.

Survey topics include:

  • Welcoming environment.
  • Communication.
  • Student success.
  • Advocacy.
  • Family and school partnerships.
  • Community partnerships.

The survey will be available in English, Amharic, Arabic, Chinese, Farsi, Korean, Pashto, Spanish, Urdu, and Vietnamese. Parents/caregivers will receive a survey link via email from FCPS on March 9. A survey link will also be posted on FCPS’ website. Paper surveys will be available at each school. Please stay tuned for more information.

Community Conversations: Share Your Thoughts With Dr. Reid: As a listening leader, connecting with community members across our school division is critical to FCPS Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid. Her Community Conversations are opportunities for you to share your thoughts and ask questions. Events will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. (unless otherwise noted) on:

Child care and interpretation services will be provided. Events are open to all. Visit the superintendent’s engagement page for the most up-to-date information.

Phones Off, Learning On: FCPS’ cell phone policy helps students focus, learn, and engage. When students put their phones away, they have more face-to-face interactions with their peers and teachers and more opportunities to develop resilience and problem-solving skills. Please remind your child that:

  • Cell phones and personal devices (earbuds, headsets, other items connected to the internet) must be off and away for the entire school day (bell to bell) with the exception of lunch time in designated lunch spaces.
  • Smart watches that serve a dual purpose may be worn, but the phone features (texting, Internet viewing, and calls) are to be off when phone use is prohibited.

If you need to contact your child during the school day, please call our front office at 703-802-5400. Visit our cell phone policy webpage for more information and answers to frequently asked questions.

Los temas de la encuesta incluyen:

  • Ambiente acogedor.
  • Comunicación.
  • Éxito estudiantil.
  • Defensa de los estudiantes (Advocacy).
  • Colaboración entre la familia y la escuela.
  • Colaboraciones comunitarias.
