Good Afternoon Fox Mill Families,
Today, our sixth graders—and our talented staff—will showcase their skills at the South Lakes High School gym as they take on Sunrise Valley Elementary School in a friendly basketball game. This exciting event is a wonderful opportunity for students and staff to demonstrate teamwork, sportsmanship, and school spirit while enjoying a fun and supportive community competition. Our students and teachers are ready after an exciting pep rally at school today.
On Tuesday, half of our fifth-grade students went to Potomac Overlook Regional Park based on the Get2 Green FCPs initiative to learn about ecosystems and how they keep populations in balance. We enjoyed a nature walk to learn about the resources the population in the park has to offer. Students enjoyed a populations gam called “Oh Deer!” where they enacted deer populations overtime as they fought for resources.
On Thursday, our second graders visited the Science Center, where they had a wonderful opportunity to engage in hands-on STEM activities. Students explored interactive exhibits, asked thoughtful questions, and discovered how science, technology, engineering, and math connect to the world around them. It was an exciting day of learning that sparked curiosity and encouraged our young scientists to think, explore, and experiment!
A FEW UPDATES
April Statewide Election: No School for Students
There will be no school for students on Tuesday, April 21, for the Virginia statewide election. Student activities, athletic practices, and events may proceed as scheduled.
Fairfax County Public Schools will still exceed the required number of instructional hours for students, as set by the Virginia Department of Education.
Phones Off, Learning On
FCPS’ cell phone policy helps students focus, learn, and engage. When students put their phones away, they have more face-to-face interactions with their peers and teachers and more opportunities to develop resilience and problem-solving skills. Please remind your child that:
Cell phones and personal devices (earbuds, headsets, other items connected to the internet) must be off and away for the entire school day (bell to bell).
Smart watches that serve a dual purpose may be worn, but the phone features (texting, Internet viewing, and calls) are to be off when phone use is prohibited.
If you need to contact your child during the school day, please call our front office at 7032622700. Visit our cell phone policy webpage for more information and answers to frequently asked questions.
