Our second-grade students are learning to play volleyball! Students start playing with a lightweight balloon to develop volleyball skills such as tracking the ball, hand-eye coordination, and the fundamental 'ready position'.

Brookfield is Full of Heart Work and Teamwork

Food and Nutrition Services Team holding gift baskets

Recently, Brookfield’s kitchen gas line required a specialized replacement part, leaving our kitchen without gas for several weeks. Despite this unexpected challenge, our incredible Food and Nutrition Services team worked tirelessly to ensure that our students and staff continued to receive the meals they depend on each day.

Each morning, the team arrived at Brookfield to serve breakfast to our students. After breakfast service, team members traveled to Westfield High School, where they prepared hot meals for Brookfield students. The food was then transported back to Brookfield and served by our staff. Behind the scenes, team members also remained at Brookfield to prepare items for the following day.

The coordination, dedication, and teamwork displayed throughout this process were truly remarkable. Even while juggling multiple locations and responsibilities, our Food and Nutrition Services team carried out their work with positivity and smiles each day.

We are incredibly proud of this team and deeply grateful for their commitment to our school community. We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to the Westfield High School staff for welcoming our team and supporting this effort.

Pictured above is our Food and Nutrition Services team after receiving special thank-you baskets from our Region 5 Leadership Team. There is no doubt that Brookfield is full of heart!

We are also happy to share that our kitchen is fully operational again.

A Message from Our Admin Team

Brookfield Admin Photo

Dear Brookfield Community,

As we begin to notice the changing weather and the signs of spring, our school community feels a renewed sense of energy. While the warmer days are certainly exciting, we remain focused on the important work happening at Brookfield: strong academics, meaningful learning, and supporting every student in reaching their full potential.

Our students continue to work hard each day, and we are proud of the effort they are putting into their schoolwork. As we near the end of the third quarter, maintaining focus and strong learning habits is especially important. At Brookfield, we believe that all students can and will learn at high levels, and we are committed to providing the supports necessary for every student to be successful.

An important part of our school culture is The Brookfield Way. We encourage families to talk with their children about what it looks like and sounds like to be respectful, responsible, and ready in all areas of their day, whether in the classroom, the hallways, the cafeteria, the playground, or the bus. Reinforcing these expectations at home helps our students carry them confidently throughout their school day.

Our home-school partnership is essential to student success. We appreciate your continued support in ensuring that students complete their homework each night and read regularly. These daily habits make a meaningful difference in building strong academic skills and confidence.

Let’s keep the strong momentum going as we approach the final weeks of the third quarter. Together, we can continue creating a positive and supportive environment where every Bronco thrives.

Thank you for your partnership and for being such an important part of the Brookfield community.

Warmly,

Lesley Hassen, Principal

Margaret Sisler, Assistant Principal

Anthony Ramakis, Assistant Principal

April 21 Statewide Election: No School for Students

There will be no school for students on Tuesday, April 21, for the Virginia statewide election. Student activities, athletic practices, and events may proceed as scheduled.

Fairfax County Public Schools will still exceed the required number of instructional hours for students, as set by the Virginia Department of Education.

County Seeking Budget Input

About 70% of the FCPS budget comes from the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. They are currently reviewing the county’s 2027 Fiscal Year Advertised Budget and are considering possible adjustments before the final county budget is adopted in May.

Provide the county with feedback on how you would like your tax dollars spent by completing this survey.

Community Conversations: Share Your Thoughts With Dr. Reid

Connecting with community members across our school division is critical to FCPS Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid. Her Community Conversations are opportunities for you to share your thoughts and ask questions. Events will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. (unless otherwise noted) on:

Click on a date to register to attend that event. Registration is not required, but helps with planning, especially for child care and interpretation services. Events are open to all. Visit the superintendent’s engagement page for the most up-to-date information.

Phones Off, Learning On

FCPS’ cell phone policy helps students focus, learn, and engage. When students put their phones away, they have more face-to-face interactions with their peers and teachers and more opportunities to develop resilience and problem-solving skills. Please remind your child that:

  • Cell phones and personal devices (earbuds, headsets, other items connected to the internet) must be off and away for the entire school day (bell to bell).
  • Smart watches that serve a dual purpose may be worn, but the phone features (texting, Internet viewing, and calls) are to be off when phone use is prohibited.

If you need to contact your child during the school day, please call our front office at 703-814-8700. Visit our cell phone policy webpage for more information and answers to frequently asked questions.
