Marshall HS News and Announcements: March 13th, 2026

Congratulations to the Marshall Orchestras on their performances at the VBODA Assessment this past weekend!

The event (held at Washington-Liberty HS) consists of three prepared stage selections as well as a Sight Reading portion.  All four orchestras received Superior ratings in the Sight Reading, where they have to perform a selection they have never seen before.  Here are the overall ratings for each ensemble:

Philharmonic Orchestra – Superior

Capriccio Orchestra – Excellent

Five Star Strings – Superior

Statesmen Sinfonia – Superior

All four groups represented our school extremely well, and I am very proud of their progress and performances!  Special thanks to Mr. Litz for coming out to support Sinfonia on Friday night!

Congratulations to Marshall DECA's 2026 State Competitors

Seventy members of Marshall High School’s DECA chapter competed at the 2026 Virginia DECA State Leadership Conference (SLC), held February 27–March 1 in Virginia Beach, and achieved outstanding success. DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management. With more than 5,500 competitors from across Virginia in attendance, this year’s SLC was more competitive than ever. GCM DECA is proud to announce that seven students have qualified to advance to the International Career Development Conference (ICDC) in Atlanta, Georgia, on April 25–29. These students deserve special recognition:

  • Dalia Bekkadja, Business Finance Series
  • Oliver Bisson and Josh Levy, Business Law and Ethics Team Decision Making
  • Vera Boon, Principles of Business Administration Series
  • Serenity Busby, Principles of Business Administration Series
  • Vivinna Christopher Anand, Professional Selling Event
  • Abdullah Tollibiev, Principles of Entrepreneurship Series

In addition to Marshall DECA’s competitive success, we are extraordinarily proud to share that Elizabeth Yoo has been elected by Virginia DECA members to serve as the Region 2 Vice President on the Virginia DECA State Leadership Team. Serving as a Virginia DECA state officer is a tremendous honor, not only for Elizabeth, but also for our chapter and our school. We look forward to watching Elizabeth contribute and lead at the state level in the coming year.

Congratulations to all of our outstanding Statesmen DECA students on their achievements!

Any area student — not just those from Fairfax County Public Schools — who does not have the funds to purchase prom attire may choose from hundreds of dresses. They must show a valid student ID, or other form of school identification, to select a free dress during the following store hours:

  • Friday, March 13, 5 to 8 p.m.

Sophomore Plant Sales

The Marshall High School Plant Sale is open for business and the proceeds benefit our Sophomore Class (2028).

The plant sale takes place every year and has a loyal customer base. It has a very good reputation for high quality, reasonably priced plants.

Order deadline is March 27. Plants are available for pick up in front of Marshall High School from 8:30AM - 11:00AM on

Saturday, May 2. Colors are first come first serve.  Plants are perfect for teacher gifts, Mother’s Day gifts and your own personal garden needs.

We have raised about $400 profit so far from the plant sale and the sale opened Monday. Our goal is to raise $5,000 and I think we can make it if we try.

Please order plants for yourself and send this link to friends and family to help us sell as many flowers as we can. If you cannot buy flowers this year, please consider making a monetary donation (link here)

Each class has a goal of raising approximately $40,000 to pay for graduation and prom related activities. Because the goal is so large, classes start fund raising Sophomore year with the Plant Sale.

Chris Krouse and Carolyn Kesler are co-chairing the Fundraising Committee.  They are looking for at least 20 more parents to help with the fundraising efforts. We hope you will consider joining us

Phones Off, Learning On

FCPS’ cell phone policy helps students focus, learn, and engage. When students put their phones away, they have more face-to-face interactions with their peers and teachers and more opportunities to develop resilience and problem-solving skills. Please remind your child that:

  • Cell phones and personal devices (earbuds, headsets, other items connected to the internet) must be off and away for the entire school day (bell to bell) with the exception of lunch time in designated lunch spaces.
  • Smart watches that serve a dual purpose may be worn, but the phone features (texting, Internet viewing, and calls) are to be off when phone use is prohibited.

If you need to contact your child during the school day, please call our front office at 703-714-5400. Visit our cell phone policy webpage for more information and answers to frequently asked questions.
