Hayfield Secondary Week 28 Community Newsletter

Dear Hayfield Community -

It’s been a great week at the Hawk's nest. Please see below for our amazing highlights. We have been placing a strong focus on ensuring students arrive on time to each of their classes. Punctuality plays an important role in setting students up for success, as arriving on time—especially at the start of the day—helps them begin the morning focused, prepared, and ready to learn. Even a few minutes late can mean missing important instructions or key learning moments. We greatly appreciate our families’ continued support in helping students arrive on time and ready to make the most of their school day.

🗨️DiBari's Dispatch

Hey Hawk Family–

It’s been another amazing week here at Hayfield! As you may have felt outside, Spring is definitely in the air. We have begun preparations for Spring performances and athletics, which always becomes a very busy time here at Hayfield. I want to encourage you and your family to attend some of these events. As I try to tell all of the students, the best way to continue to make Hayfield a great place is to get involved. This can be done by attending events, as well as participating in clubs and after school programs. We have a wide variety of options here, so please make sure your students are taking advantage of them. While you’re having these discussions, check out the Student Life and Activities page for all that we offer. Get involved!

Also, I want to let you know that we will be focusing on tardiness to school and to class here at Hayfield. As the weather gets warmer, sometimes the pace can get slower in the hallways and to the front door. Timeliness to school and class is not a suggestion, it is an expectation. We have an exceptional staff that is working hard to provide both quality instruction and a safe, positive learning environment here at Hayfield. Being on time and moving with purpose are a big part of that. Please talk with your students about the timeliness and help support them. Thank you!

I wish you all another incredible week. As always, don’t hesitate to reach out to me with any questions, celebrations, or suggestions at asdibari@fcps.edu

Hayfield Senior Sinaiyah Emami Honored with 2026 Student Peace Award🏅

We are proud to announce that Hayfield Secondary School senior Sinaiyah Emami has been named a recipient of the 2026 Student Peace Award of Fairfax County.

Sinaiyah was recognized for her inspiring leadership and advocacy for children of wounded, ill, and injured veterans. Drawing from her own family’s experience with her father’s PTSD after his service in Afghanistan, Sinaiyah and her sister Azara (a Hayfield 9th grader) launched the blog "We Signed Up Too." The platform provides a safe space for military children to share stories and find community, helping to bring visibility to the unique emotional challenges they face.

Beyond her online work, Sinaiyah has partnered with organizations like Willing Warriors and Cloverleaf Equine Center to organize events that allow children of disabled veterans to connect and simply "have fun."

Sinaiyah’s commitment to turning personal hardship into meaningful action promotes peace through understanding and community support. She was honored alongside students from 28 other Fairfax County schools at a ceremony earlier this month.

Please join us in congratulating Sinaiyah on this prestigious achievement and for her dedication to making a difference in the lives of her peers!

FCPS CARES🧡

Congratulations! The following staff member has been recognized as an employee who shows that FCPS CARES: Cameron G Lyons

FCPS CARES submission:

Cameron has joined the Hayfield High School CAT B team with her full heart. Since the beginning of the year, she's been creating opportunities for students to gain vocational experience, grow their social skills, and build confidence. She is helping to foster a sense of independence in all of her students by finding opportunities through job sites and in-class skill-building. Cameron presumes competence in all of her students and does not give up if she comes up against a challenge. She's able to pivot and create new opportunities for students and advocates fiercely on their behalf. Our students are now going on field trips to explore post-graduate options, working in multiple community job sites, finding meaningful work within our building, growing their vocational skills in class through intentional instruction, and becoming more visible around our building. She does it all with the best of intentions, a growth mindset, and an open heart. We are so lucky Cameron has joined the Hawk Family and cannot wait to see how she continues to soar!

Post-Secondary Planning🌱!

On Monday, March 9, some of our students went to tour the Pulley Career Center, which provides specialized, hands-on career and independent living skills training to students with disabilities aged 18–22. It offers a modified curriculum, including community-based job sites in hospitality, retail, and culinary arts, preparing students for postsecondary employment and independent living.

From Deepfakes to Digital Defense: Cybersecurity Fundamentals Levels Up💻

image of a computer screen

It’s been an action-packed few months for our Cybersecurity Fundamentals class as we’ve moved beyond the classroom and into the frontlines of industry. We were first joined by Giancarlo Cordova, Principal Consultant at Google Cloud (Mandiant), who guided us through the chillingly realistic world of Deepfakes. His session was a wake-up call on why visual literacy is now a vital security skill, helping students understand how to spot AI-driven deception before it compromises a network.

Following that, Micha Jackson, Senior Manager of Offensive Security at VF Corporation, brought the heat with a live white hat hacking demonstration. By showing us exactly how penetration testers identify and exploit vulnerabilities to protect global companies, Micha transformed abstract concepts into a tangible career roadmap, providing our students with a clear guide on how to enter and thrive in this high-demand field. These industry insights have been invaluable, moving our students past simple theory and giving them the defensive mindset and professional inspiration needed to thrive in a high-stakes digital world

i2i Career Fair 🏥

Students participated in the i2i Job Fair on March 12th, gaining valuable real-world experience through mock interviews and professional networking. Throughout the event, students practiced introducing themselves, answering common interview questions, and discussing their skills, interests, and career goals with industry volunteers. The experience helped them build confidence, strengthen their communication skills, and learn how to make positive first impressions in a professional setting. By engaging with professionals and receiving constructive feedback, students left the event better prepared for future job opportunities and more aware of the importance of networking in career development.

DECA State Leadership Conference🏅

Hayfield Secondary School proudly took 47 students to compete at the Virginia DECA State Leadership Conference in Virginia Beach, where they participated in a variety of marketing and business-related competitions. Students demonstrated their knowledge and skills through role plays, presentations, and written events that challenged them to think critically and apply real-world business concepts. In addition to competing, students had the opportunity to connect with peers from across the state, attend leadership workshops, and experience the excitement of a large-scale professional conference. The event highlighted the hard work and dedication of Hayfield’s DECA members as they represented their school with professionalism, teamwork, and school pride.

The administration team would like to add a special thank you to Ms. M and Mrs. Hendricks for their unwavering commitment to Hayfield's DECA. Being a sponsor is a huge undertaking, often requiring them to trade their personal weekends for competition prep and travel. Our students' incredible success is a direct reflection of the time and heart these two pour into the program. We couldn’t do it without you!

Middle School Track Highlight🏆

Congratulations to Hayfield’s own Jealina Haywood for earning All-American honors in the triple jump last weekend! We are so proud of you and can’t wait for the middle school track season to begin.

🔑 Important Information

Tardies and Attendance

Strong attendance and arriving on time are vital components of your student’s academic success, as the first few minutes of class often set the tone for the entire day's learning. We have noticed an increase of students consistently arriving late to 1st and 2nd periods, which results in missed instructional time and disruptions to the classroom environment. To protect the integrity of our teachers' lessons and ensure every student gets the most out of their education, we will begin monitoring tardy data more closely. Please be aware that students with chronic tardiness will be subject to disciplinary action in accordance with school policy.

Orchestra State Assessment Results🎻

We are  proud to report that all 4 high school orchestras received SUPERIOR ratings at the VBODA District 10 State Assessment this weekend!

At VBODA State Assessment orchestras are adjudicated on 7 different categories for a stage performance and a sightreading (playing a piece of music we have never seen before) by a panel of judges. This is Orchestra's version of an “SOL” in which students and directors are graded on how well they are meeting curricular requirements. We are exceedingly proud of the hard work the Hayfield students have put forth, especially in light of some much rehearsal time.

Join Us for our Head Football Coach Announcement🏈
