Interesting week. It was 83 degrees one day, and snowing the next! We are only two weeks away from Spring Break though, so we take the wild weather variations in stride.
Please check out the article below for an update to our Anchor/Blue/Red Day calendar. As FCPS mentioned, there will be no school on Tuesday, April 21, so we had to make an adjustment to accommodate that.
It was a big weekend for extracurriculars last Saturday and Sunday for TJ as we hosted the Virginia State Chess Tournament inside the building and HackTJ 13.0 in Tysons. More details about those events below.
Remember next week is a short week. We will have a Red Day on Monday, and no school on Friday.
As always, please reach out if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Mike Roth
TJHSST Director of Communications
TJ's Anchor/Blue/Red Day Calendar
Families received notice from FCPS on Wednesday that schools will be closed on Tuesday, April 21 in order to serve as polling locations in that day's special statewide election.
As a result, TJ will be changing Monday, April 20 to a Blue Day. An updated Anchor/Blue/Red Day calendar is linked above.

We are excited to announce that two beautiful wall enclosures now surround our 85" TouchPros screens in Alumni Hall and the Gallery of Achievement.
Remember you don't need to be physically at TJ to see 40 years of history on our TouchPros site. You can visit it by copying and pasting the following address:

We have all the yearbooks, TJ Todays, tens of thousands of photographs, unique documents, and videos for you to view!
And this project is not done yet, as this will be the home of our Hall of Honor and Oral History Museum once complete. We are also adding more historical documents weekly as they get scanned!
Spring is nearly here, and that means that yearbooks will only be sold for a few more weeks!
Please visit www.yearbookordercenter.com and use school code 13621 before Saturday, April 25 when sales close!
Last year, we sold out of the yearbook before distribution day and had a long waitlist. To avoid disappointment in May or June, I urge you to pre-order your 2026 yearbook NOW!
With the purchase of Techniques yearbook, you get Threshold literary magazine, Teknos science magazine, and a year of tjTODAY (distributed at school throughout the year and online) for free.
Don't delay, but please email me if you have any questions.

HackTJ 13.0, TJ's annual 24-hour hackathon where students throughout Fairfax County design and build an app while also learning and improving their coding skills took place last weekend.
Several hundred students put together their projects at the CVent center in Tysons. At the end of the event, the top rated projects won prizes! Thank you to the TJ Partnership Fund for their generous grant and their work with their partners that allows this event to happen every year!
Congratulations to the HackTJ team, led by Mr. Kosek and Mr. Hannum, and made up of TJ students for putting together an amazing event!

TJ hosted the annual Virginia Scholastic & College Championships last weekend with over 1300 competitors from kindergarten to college coming through our halls.
The tournament concluded on Sunday when TJ Chess was able to take a co-championship in the K-12 major level. While sharing the title with Briarwood, we got the first place trophy on tiebreakers! Freshman Kyle Zhuang was the individual state co-champ!
Our Under-1400 team also won the state title on Sunday, beating every team by over 2 points!
And on Friday our Blitz Chess team took home a state championship! TJ won every state title it was eligible for in this tournament!
Congrats to everyone for an amazing weekend of chess!
