Happy Friday, Panther Families:

A huge thank you to our incredible PTA for hosting such a fantastic Family Skate Night last Sunday!  The event was a tremendous success—well attended and full of laughter. Our students, families, and even a few brave parents had a wonderful time “rolling” together and enjoying the evening as a community.

This is “assessment season” for our outstanding Fine Arts program. Our chorus, band, and orchestra students will soon be showcasing their hard work and talent. We wish them the very best as they represent our Panthers with pride!

Spring SOL Testing is right around the corner.  Make note of the dates below, and we encourage you to plan accordingly.

Langston Hughes Middle School 2026 Spring SOL Test Dates

All testing starts at 7:30 a.m. Please avoid scheduling appointments on testing days.

March 24

Grade 8 Only: Integrated Reading & Writing

May 6

Reading 7 & 8

May 12

Grade 8 Only:  Physical Science

May 14

Math 7 & 7HN, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I & II, Geometry

Action Item: If you have not already done so, please provide consent in ParentVUE to allow your child to participate in spring retesting, if needed. Many students come very close to the passing score and greatly benefit from a second opportunity to demonstrate what they have learned. Providing consent now ensures that, should your child need this opportunity, they will be able to retest and potentially earn a passing score.  Your prompt attention to this request is greatly appreciated.

We are also excited about our SCA’s signature event — “I See Me in Reston.” Join us on Wednesday, March 25, from 5:30–7:00 p.m. as our Panther community comes together to celebrate the many cultures that make Reston such a special place to call home. It promises to be a wonderful evening filled with food, art, music, and cultural pride.

You can participate in several ways:

  • Bring a dish for our Community Potluck Table;
  • Host a Cultural Showcase Table to share traditions through crafts, artifacts, or activities;
  • Perform a musical or dance piece that represents your culture.

Please complete the “I See Me in Reston” Sign-Up Form if you would like to participate.

Finally, please note that there will be no school on Friday, March 20, 2026, so be sure to plan accordingly.

Have a terrific weekend; we’ve certainly earned it! 😊

With Panthers in Mind,
Principal Mizell
