Kings Park Families,
Our next Early Release Wednesday is coming up on March 18th. Dismissal plans on record from the last Early Release Wednesday were shared via TalkingPoints on Monday afternoon. If your child’s dismissal plan needs to be updated, please submit any changes by Monday, March 16th. When changes are received after the deadline, it can be challenging to communicate updates in time to ensure a smooth and accurate dismissal process for all students. We appreciate your partnership in helping dismissal run safely and efficiently for everyone.
We hope to see many families at STEAM Night this Thursday, March 12, from 5:00pm-6:3pm in the Kings Park Cafeteria. Families will have the opportunity to see and try activities that highlight the skills our students have been developing all year, including Portrait of a Graduate skills, critical and creative thinking strategies, the engineering design process, computer science and computational thinking. It will be a fun, interactive way to experience the curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving happening in our classrooms. We look forward to learning and exploring together!

During this webinar, families will learn practical tips and essential information to support their child's smooth and successful start to kindergarten in Fairfax County Public Schools. Register to receive the event link.
📚 Finishing Up Our Exploration of Technology and Society in Language Arts 📚
Students are finishing Benchmark Unit 5 in Language Arts! Over the last several weeks, our students have learned, read, and written about why and how we use technology.
Connect with your child’s learning at school with these fun questions and hands-on activities at home:
- Question: What do you think life would be like if we didn’t have cell phones or the internet?
- Activity: Ask your child to predict the next big invention in transportation, communication, or entertainment. Have them sketch it, name it, and explain how it works.
At the end of the unit, your child will take their unit magazine home. The magazine includes an activity calendar with fun ways to help students build on what they’re learning at each grade level. You can also find information on how to support your child’s reading at home on the Benchmark Families website.
Fairfax County Health Department Measles Update
Measles is a highly contagious virus that infects 9 out of 10 people who are exposed, if unvaccinated or not immune. It has been in the news lately due to cases in Northern Virginia and among people who have traveled through local airports.
If your spring break or summer plans include traveling abroad or to an area in the United States with high measles activity, the Fairfax County Health Department encourages you to ensure your family is protected. Children 12 months and older should have 1 or 2 doses before traveling. Depending on your specific travel plans, your health care provider may also advise you to vaccinate infants 6 to 11 months old. Read more about these recommendations.
Sleep Awareness Week
The National Sleep Foundation’s Sleep Awareness Week is March 8 to 14. The observance highlights the critical link between sleep and health, both physical and mental. Read more about sleep health and sleep strategies you can try at home.

Community Events
Burke School Fundraiser
The Burke School PTA is hosting a fundraiser and reaching out to our local community for support. Because many of our families live outside the immediate area, we rely on the generosity of our neighbors to help make these events successful.
Please consider supporting us by purchasing a meal at the Wendy’s in Burke Towne Center on March 10 (6056 Burke Commons Road, Burke, VA 22015). Burke School will receive 20% of sales when you say “Burke PTA” at checkout.
Burke School serves FCPS students from across the district and is dedicated to educating children with diverse abilities, needs, and backgrounds. Your support truly makes a difference for our students.
