Preschool Community Peers
Oak Hill Elementary School is pleased to announce that we are now enrolling community peers for the 2026-2027 school year to learn alongside preschool students with special needs participating in the early childhood special education program. The Community Peer Program provides an opportunity for preschoolers of all abilities to learn and play together in a nurturing, high-quality environment.
Children in our community, ages 3.5 to 5 years old, who meet program criteria are eligible to apply. Children selected for this program have the unique opportunity to make new friends as a member of an inclusive class community. Community peers serve as positive role models, helping support the development of language, motor, and social skills through everyday interactions.
Our early childhood special education classrooms use a child-centered approach with predictable routines that include morning meeting, work time, small-group activities, music, art, and outdoor play. Each class is led by a certified early childhood special education teacher and instructional assistant.
Families interested in the Community Peer Program should complete and submit the Community Peer Program Google Form no later than April 3, 2026. On Monday, April 13th from 2:00-2:45 we will host a mandatory meeting at Oak Hill for interested families. We will share information regarding the program with parents/guardians while the children attend a playdate with staff in the classroom next door.

PTA Meeting- This Thursday!
The next PTA meeting will be in-person at 6 pm on Thursday, March 12th. Christina Moynihan of Mid-Atlantic Psychotherapy will be presenting "Play, not Pressure. Your Post-Pandemic Guide to Stronger Healthier Kids".
Most children, including those born during COVID-19, are developing typically. However, children in highly stressed families showed more emotional, social, and language vulnerabilities. Pandemic disruptions particularly affected social-emotional skills and early academics in elementary school aged children. Now, unstructured, child-led play and time with peers play a key role in supporting mental health, language, and resilience. Additionally, stable routines, supportive adults, and early intervention help children who struggle to catch up and thrive.
If attendees have any questions they would like to pre-submit, please send your question to cmoynihan@midatlantictalktherapy.com with the subject: Oak Hill PTA Meeting Question
